Gainesville woman arrested for cutting neighbor with knife in elevator

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Katie Graham Wilson, 76, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly cutting a neighbor with a butcher knife in the elevator at their apartment complex.

At about 10:20 a.m. on Friday, a Gainesville Police Department Officer responded to The 400 Apartments (400 NW 1st Ave.), where the victim reportedly had a one-inch gash on his thumb.

The officer reported that Wilson and the victim both live in the apartment building but on different floors, and they have been arguing for about a week. On Friday, Wilson and the victim were in the elevator with another person, and the victim had his hands full; Wilson allegedly became upset and told the victim she would kill him. She then allegedly took a butcher knife from her purse and waved it in the direction of the victim, cutting his thumb.

The victim said he pulled back in fear for his life, and the other person pulled Wilson off the elevator as the doors opened.

Post Miranda, Wilson reportedly denied using a knife but said the victim had been picking on her for weeks and calling her names.

Wilson has two misdemeanor convictions (both violent) and successfully completed her probation in a battery case last October. She has been released from the jail; information about bail will not be available until Monday.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Whew! It was just a knife. Thank God it wasn’t one of those inherently evil guns.

  • Maybe she thought the Devil was in the elevator with her?
    Interesting movie by the way.
