Gainesville woman arrested for intentionally hitting boyfriend’s car

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ja’niya Talesia Jones, 22, has been charged with attempted aggravated battery for allegedly hitting her boyfriend’s car after chasing him at high speed.

At about 8:30 p.m. on July 19, a Gainesville Police Department officer spoke with the victim and reported that the victim’s car had damage to the rear bumper.

The officer’s investigation found that the victim drove away from Jones after an altercation, and Jones followed him at a high rate of speed in a friend’s car. When the victim stopped at a red light, Jones allegedly intentionally hit the victim’s car. Her friend reportedly got out of the vehicle and hit the victim’s windshield several times before he was able to drive away.

The victim reportedly had to make several evasive turns before he was able to lose Jones in traffic.

A friend of the victim reportedly said he saw Jones pursuing the victim’s vehicle at a high rate of speed, and he said the victim tried repeatedly to evade Jones by making U-turns.

Jones’s friend reportedly said Jones was driving her car when it hit the victim’s car. The officer noted that the friend’s car had damage to the front bumper.

Jones reportedly denied being in the vehicle when it hit the victim’s car.

The officer filed a sworn complaint, and Jones was arrested yesterday. She has juvenile convictions in 2017 and 2018 but no adult criminal convictions. Judge Tatum Davis set bail at $25,000.
