Gainesville woman arrested for kicking occupied car in Publix parking lot, causing $2k in damage

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Valerie Ann Reed, 36, was arrested early this morning after allegedly screaming at a woman getting out of her car at Publix and then “donkey kicking” the victim’s car, causing about $2,000 in damage, while trying to open the driver’s door.

The victim told a responding Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy that she parked her car at the Publix at Butler Plaza West (3930 SW Archer Road) at about 1 p.m. on August 6, and a woman walked up and started screaming at her as she was getting out of her car. The victim said she quickly got back into her car out of fear, and then the woman started “donkey kicking” her driver’s side door and rear driver’s side door while screaming, “Get up out of the car.”

The victim started recording the woman, who continued hitting and kicking her car while trying to get the victim out of her car. The woman tried to force the car door open, but the victim was able to lock it in time.

The deputy reported that the victim showed him a video of the incident, and he estimated the damage to the victim’s car at about $2,000.

The victim recorded the tag on the woman’s vehicle and called 911. Deputies established a possible location for the vehicle and reportedly found Reed at her apartment.

Post Miranda, Reed reportedly admitted to being in the parking lot and said she’d gotten into a verbal argument with the victim; she said the victim almost hit her while she was walking across the parking lot, prompting her to confront the victim. Reed reportedly left out anything about kicking the victim’s car or trying to open her car door, but once she was told there was video, she reportedly admitted to kicking the door and trying to open the door.

Reed has been charged with attempted burglary with assault or battery and property damage over $1,000. She has no criminal convictions, and Judge Jonathan Ramsey ordered her released on her own recognizance.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • I’ve seen these types before.

Whether they’re driving or walking, they think they’re entitled to use every part of the road. Wouldn’t that have been something if she would have been parked in a handicap space.

    • Yup walk right down the middle of the lanes of parking while taking their sweet time and looking at their phones (or talking on the speaker phone turned up all the way so we can all listen to their entire conversation) Lots of people in this town seem to have this entitlement problem where the only thing that matters to them, is them, and if it’s inconvenient to anyone else it’s of no consequence to them.

  • Lesson: Hot flashes are even worse when menopause strikes a manly looking woman, especially in August. 😮‍💨🥵🤯🤬

  • She’s out?! Good Lawd! That woman is unhinged. At least do a psych evaluation on her. We will see her again.
