GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dominque Dshala Liquae Jackson, 35, was arrested last night after allegedly shooting at a family member.

At about 11:59 p.m. on April 9, a witness reportedly told a Gainesville Police Department officer that Jackson and the victim had been arguing for 30 or 40 minutes at Hidden Village Apartments (2725 SW 27th Avenue), and when the witness stepped outside to see what was going on, he saw a lot of items in the yard outside their apartment. He said the argument was mostly inside the apartment, so he went back into his apartment, and when he went back outside to check on them, he saw the victim standing outside, at the end of the apartment building. He said he heard Jackson say, “You know what, imma pray for you,” and then she pointed the gun in the victim’s direction and fired one shot. The witness said the victim ran away after the gunshot; the witness wasn’t able to describe the gun, but he said he saw the muzzle flash and heard the gunshot.

The victim said he had been arguing with Jackson, but the argument never became physical. He said he walked outside to get away from Jackson, and as he walked away from the apartment, he heard a gunshot.

Post Miranda, Jackson reportedly said she and the victim had argued for 20 or 30 minutes, and the victim became upset and punched a fan into an interior wall of the apartment. She said she told the victim to leave, and the victim said she would have to call the police, but then he left. She said she was initially standing in the doorway with her gun in her pocket, arguing with the victim, and she stepped out into the walkway and fired one shot into the air. She denied ever pointing a gun at the victim.

The officer reported that there was no physical evidence corroborating Jackson’s claim that she had fired into the air, and no bullet hole was found in the ceiling of the apartment walkway.

Jackson reportedly consented to a search of her apartment; a bullet casing was reportedly found in a bedroom, and a gun was found in Jackson’s room.

The officer wrote that this did not appear to be a self-defense situation because the victim was four apartments away from Jackson when she fired the shot; Jackson also reportedly stated multiple times that the victim was never physically violent with her.

Jackson has been charged with domestic aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She has one felony conviction (one violent), two misdemeanor convictions (one violent), and two traffic convictions. Senior Judge Bo Bayer ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold her without bail until trial, but the State Attorney’s Office later withdrew the motion and asked the judge to set bail. On April 13, Judge Denise Ferrero set bail at $15,000.
