Gainesville woman arrested for stabbing boyfriend with kitchen knife

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Cortaisa Tranea Johnson, 23, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend with a kitchen knife.

At about 11:30 a.m. on July 5, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to UF Health Shands Hospital, where the victim said he was asleep in Johnson’s apartment at Oak Glades Apartments when she started arguing with him, began crying, shouted that she hated him, and kicked him in the head. He said he got up to leave the apartment, but she grabbed a kitchen knife and started swinging it at him; he said the knife stabbed him in the arm while he was trying to block it.

The officer reported that the victim had a minor puncture wound on his bicep and a minor laceration on his forearm.

The officer made contact with Johnson a few hours later at her apartment, and post Miranda, she reportedly admitted that she had stabbed the victim but had not intended to cause bodily harm. She said the victim had backed her into a corner of the kitchen, and she was trying to get away from him; she said he punched, pushed, and slapped her several times, both inside and outside the apartment. She told the officer where the “steak” knife could be found.

The officer reported that Johnson did not have any visible injuries to support her account of the incident.

Johnson has been charged with domestic aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She has no criminal history, and Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $10,000.
