Gainesville woman arrested for stabbing husband with electric drill and pocket knife

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Lakeyra Denise Ross, 43, was arrested last night for allegedly stabbing her husband with a pocket knife and an electric drill.

At about 10:35 p.m. on August 19, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a call about an armed disturbance in Linton Oaks (6400 block of SW 9th Avenue), where the victim said Ross had repeatedly stabbed him with a pocket knife, and as he tried to run outside, she grabbed his shirt; the deputy noted that the victim’s shirt was completely torn.

The victim said that once he was outside, Ross picked up an electric drill and tried to stab him with it, causing him to scream with pain and run towards the road.

The deputy noted that the victim had multiple deep lacerations on his neck, multiple cuts under his ear, and a red mark on his shoulder that was consistent with the size of the drill bit.

A witness reportedly corroborated the victim’s story and said Ross had poked the victim with an electric drill.

Post Miranda, Ross reportedly denied using an electric drill but admitted to holding a knife in an attempt to scare the victim.

Ross has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony. She has one misdemeanor conviction (non-violent). Judge William Davis ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Another neighborhood with a species of tree mentioned.
For the safety of potential new residents, maybe the City and County should rename it to something more fitting—Laceration Oaks or Felonious Firs.

  • Linton Oaks…..used to be called Sugarfoot Oaks and I Lived there in a duplex for 4 years in the 80s while saving money to buy a house. They converted all of them to Section 8 along with Majestic Oaks and then it was time to get the hell out.
