Gainesville woman charged with abusing 74 dogs

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Amanda Kay Willbrandt, 38, was arrested on May 23 and charged with felony animal abuse for allegedly keeping 74 dogs in filthy conditions.

Willbrandt was originally cited by Alachua County Code Enforcement on November 30, 2023, for failure to treat animals humanely. The citation stated that she was “caring for 74 dogs. All were matted, had feces, urine caked in their fur. You admitted that the dogs stay in plastic kennels 24/7 [and] failed to report neglect of the dogs.” The citation lists a fine of $271, and the case was sent to a collection agency for lack of payment on February 13.

A sworn criminal complaint was filed by Alachua County Animal Resources on April 17, charging Willbrandt with failure to act, resulting in the excessive or repeated infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering and confinement of animals without sufficient food, water, or exercise. The document states that the dogs were kept on the property of a mobile home in Arredondo Estates. Willbrandt’s Facebook page states that she provides dog-sitting services.

Judge William Davis signed a warrant for Willbrandt’s arrest on May 8; Hene Infante Boensnes, who owns the business Hen Hen’s Lil Pawz, Inc., is listed as a co-defendant. A sworn complaint has been filed for Boensnes, but no warrant for her arrest has been issued.

Willbrandt was arrested on May 23 and released on $3,000 bail. She has no criminal history.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Those forest pigs in Hannibal might prove to be helpful for people who are abusive to animals.

  • Terrible. I’m hopeful those good pet rescue organizations in our area will rehome those poor creatures.

  • How in the world could she afford to feed those poor puppies. At least she’ll be eating food that I wouldn’t feed either one of my dogs or my cats. Alachua county jails food is horrible.

  • Hene B is the owner of the facility. I personally know both Hene and Amanda. Amanda did everything she was asked to do and then some. She kept the dogs fed, watered and taken care of the best she could. Once she heard about the warrant she turned herself in. Get your facts straight! The only criminal here is Hene, who failed to hire enough workers to care for the dogs that she was “fostering”. There is a outstanding warrant issued for Hene, issued in March 2024, but she has evaded law enforcement. This post makes me sick, as Amanda was at Henes dog kennel 12+ hours a day, 7 days a week, and was only paid 200-250 a week.

    • Maybe Ananda should have alerted animal control to the conditions before her warrant and the place could have been shut down sooner. It sounds a lot like a bunch of people who got caught abusing animals and blaming each other for their crimes.

  • This woman is mentally ill. She should not be allowed to have any more pets.

  • WTF is wrong with some furry women? This is an example of how women get obsessed with one tiny detail at the expense of everything else falling apart. Such as “reproductive rights”— while sex trafficking and ER abortion pill after effects would get even worse. Women should think — or taught how to — before voting.

  • I will be so glad when this area becomes part of the glorious Springs County. With no taxes they will have no money to operate a Codes Enforcement department, so we will never hear stories like this. People in Springs County will have the God given FREEDOM to own as many of God’s critters as they want, with no government interference. Secede soonest.

    • It would be nice with no taxes imposed. We could start by taxing any trespassers like you crossing the county line, LOL. If you would have looked before opening that trap you would see she lives in the city limits of Crimesville. She is one of you’re kind. She would subjected to the same trespassing taxes. You won the award today. I can understand why we have a bunch of idiots elected into office by your logic.

  • She deserves every punishment know to man and she ought be made to live in a plastic crate…if a person can be cruel to animals who cant do anything but wonder why. You, lady, should not be in proper society. One can only wonder what she might to a human who can fight back. I know id like about 10 minutes alone with her.
