Georgia residents arrested for armed robbery in Walmart parking lot

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Arianna Grace Muhammad, 18, and Clifford Dewayne Worley, 18, both of Hinesville, Georgia, and a 17-year-old boy were arrested yesterday in connection with an alleged armed robbery in a Walmart parking lot.

The victim told a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officer that at about 8:50 a.m. yesterday, a man approached him in the parking lot of the Walmart at 5700 NW 23rd Street and asked to borrow his phone to make a call. The victim gave the man his phone, and the man walked away to a blue sedan that was parked nearby. A few minutes later, the victim went to the car and asked the man for his phone back. The victim said the man pointed a gun at him, pulled the slide back, and told the victim that the phone was now his. The victim, in fear for his life, went back to his own car.

When the victim got home, he began tracking his phone and located it at various stores in the area, with the final location at the Dollar General at 145 NE 39th Avenue.

A GPD officer responded to the Dollar General and found a blue sedan matching the description given by the victim; the victim reportedly positively identified the vehicle as the blue sedan used by the man who had taken his phone. However, he could not positively identify any of the occupants of the car.

Store surveillance video reportedly showed Worley trying to sell the phone at a cell phone kiosk, but he was unsuccessful because he did not have identification with him.

Officers interviewed the occupants of the car, and a pat-down was conducted on a 17-year-old boy; the pat-down reportedly produced a loaded handgun in his pocket. The 17-year-old also reportedly gave a false name to an officer.

A search of the sedan reportedly produced a loaded gun under the passenger seat and the stolen cell phone on the back seat. The victim reportedly identified the gun as the one used by the man who stole his phone.

Worley has been charged with armed robbery, and Muhammad has been charged as an accessory after the fact to armed robbery.

Post Miranda, Worley did not make any statements. Muhammad and the 17-year-old reportedly admitted that they knew about the armed robbery and knew that Worley was trying to sell the phone for cash before officers arrived.

The defendants have no previous criminal history in the area; bail information is unavailable on weekends.
