Get moving with “Run with the Cops” at Santa Fe College on Nov. 14

Press release from Santa Fe College

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – “Run with the Cops” returns Thursday, Nov. 14, at 9:30 a.m. on the track at Santa Fe College’s Northwest Campus, 3000 NW 83rd Street, Gainesville. This annual event invites the entire community to participate in a morning of fun, fitness, and fellowship while supporting vulnerable populations in our area.

The event, free and open to all ages and abilities, encourages participants to run, walk, or roll alongside law enforcement officers from various local agencies. It’s a unique opportunity to interact with police officers in a positive and engaging environment while also promoting health and wellness.

In addition to the run, there will be displays of police and fire rescue vehicles, including specialty and antique units, giving attendees a closer look at the tools and equipment used in public safety. Participants will also have the chance to learn important safety tips and discover resources for staying secure in everyday life.

SFPD Police Chief Ed Book says the event allows the community to see police as allies, not adversaries, and promotes safety, security, health, and wellness at Santa Fe College.

  • I have always seen law enforcement officers as my allies and I have the highest regard for them. They risk their lives for us each and every day.

  • I am so very confused.
Reading the police booking articles here on the Chronicle, it is obvious that they hold the “Run from a Cop” races 365 days a year.
Why do they have to hold it an extra day at 9:30 AM on a Thursday morning?

    • So the participants can test their skills in a closed course environment. No risk of being tased or arrested. No traffic to run into either and endanger themselves or the officers.
