Staff report based on release by Gainesville Fire Rescue

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A fire in a commercial building was extinguished early this morning by crews from three Gainesville Fire Rescue stations.

At about 4:44 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of a fire at a building near the intersection of SE 4th Street and SE Veitch Street. Crews found half the building on fire but were able to hold the fire in place and quickly extinguish it, limiting the damage to where it started.

According to GFR Lieutenant Joey Gonzalez, this type of aggressive fire attack is “what GFR trains for and why firefighters want to work for Gainesville Fire Rescue!” GFR is currently looking to hire nine certified firefighters with an expected start date of Feburary 10, 2025.

There are no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
