GHS student charged with sexual battery in stairwell at high school

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Andre Steven Foster, 18, was arrested yesterday and charged with two counts of sexual battery for allegedly forcing himself on a juvenile twice in a stairwell at Gainesville High School.

At about 2:20 p.m. on September 20, Foster reportedly met the victim in the north stairwell of the 9th Grade Center at the high school; the victim reportedly told a Gainesville Police Department officer that Foster had engaged in intercourse with her after she told him she did not want to have intercourse. She said she told him to stop during the incident, but he continued.

The victim also reportedly told the officer that a similar incident had happened during the school day on September 16, also against her will.

The officer reported that Foster apologized to the victim in an Instagram message.

Post Miranda, Foster reportedly said the intercourse had been consensual, but he also said they had both agreed to not have sex.

Foster has no adult criminal history; he is currently being held without bail.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    • This happened in a stairwell, not a bathroom. Maybe we should ban all males from traveling the same staircases as females?

      • Don’t even: with your kind of thinking, we should just castrate you and not have to worry about you anywhere and you can have a
        Nice falsetto in the opera.

      • From your post, I personally feel like you’re one of those who believe it’s OK for male to enter a woman’s bathroom no matter what

  • This happened to me when I was 15 & the guy was a senior football player. His sister was my classmate. I was afraid to tell my parents or anyone else, but he told EVERYONE!!! I lived to see him go to prison for other reasons & die of cancer, also. GOD had His justice.

    • Concerned Citizen, I was sadden by your post. It seems like especially with our current County Commissioners they are more concerned about the Criminal than the victim. Hopefully she will receive all the support to help her through this ordeal

  • Critical information is missing or not available in this article. What problems, if any, are on this student’s behavior records at GHS? Does he have a history of problems not being dealt with appropriately?
Since he is 18, he should be a senior or an older Junior. Don’t confuse junior or senior status with graduation. It just indicates time in school, not credits for graduation. Does the school have security cameras? Are they operational and being properly monitored? At that time of day, this should never have happened. Is student safety an issue at GHS?

  • The male student did admit that he did that to her it was NOT CONSENSUAL in front of other students at the homecoming dance Friday. I do wish there was more support for her. From my understanding students are bullying her and teasing her about this. Especially online.

  • It’s so sad they are both High School students and he being charged as an adult. They both in school and she met him twice. His life shouldn’t be destroyed behind decisions made by both. Praying for the both of them and he is free to finish school

  • No what is sad is that this young lady has to live with this for rest of her life and deal with kids teasing her and calling her names. please don’t assume all the facts are not there mostly all if not all of her classes are upstairs. And let’s not forget he admitted it to students at the home coming dance even before he was detained

  • You people in these comments are so selfish. A student was traumatized ffs, and you’re making it about your politics. Please learn some empathy.
