Staff report

HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – Ginnie Springs announced on its Facebook page on Sunday morning that the park is temporarily closed, and Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) provided information on its Facebook page about an active investigation of an attempted murder last night at the park.

According to GCSO, deputies responded to the park at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after a call about an attempted murder in the roadway between the Devil’s Spring and the Tube Launch.

Late Saturday night, GCSO stated in a Facebook post that they are no longer seeking the identity of the person described below in their original post:

GCSO released a description of one subject, a dark-skinned African American female in her early 20s, about 5’10” to 6′ tall, fit and muscular, with long braids and light-tinted contacts. The subject was wearing circular hoop earrings and multiple rings; she had been in the park all day and had been seen at various times wearing a green bikini top, a multi-colored patterned top, and bikini bottoms or short shorts. She was last seen walking toward the exit of the park.

GCSO is requesting that anyone who has further information, may have witnessed the event, knows the identity of the subject involved, or photographed or videotaped the subject earlier in the day, please contact Lt. Cumbie at (352) 463-3410.

  • Isn’t this typical? The few ruining it for the rest of us. Hope it reopens in time for everyone else’s holiday.

    • How? Criminals don’t follow the rules or the laws that’s how. Why should they? They get arrested and let go by dinner time in alachua county.

      • There’s really 4 people who saw “gun” mentioned in the story?

Hopefully they won’t be called as witnesses.

        • TV said there was 2 shooting on Friday night and Saturday there. Not much more info though.

          • But the mention of a gun is not in the Chronicle’s presentation.
Just proof that people will read their own dialogue into any story.

  • As LOU said the actions of a few ruin it for all. Hopefully they will come up with a picture. I have not heard any more details about the crime or what was used as a weapon.

  • Ginnie is a free-for-all on these weekends.
Drugs and alcohol flow better than the water.

  • Ginnie has been an out of control underage spring break on weekends for years. Hopefully the state takes it over.

    • Agree with your 1st point.
      Disagree with your 2nd.

It’s run far better than GRU.
