GNV Voices submits report on Comprehensive Plan (ImagineGNV) workshops to the City Commission

Press release from Gainesville Neighborhood Voices

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Board of Directors of GNV Voices has submitted to the City our report on the two community workshops addressing the City’s draft comprehensive plan, entitled Imagine GNV, that were sponsored by Gainesville Neighborhood Voices, Inc. Our full report is posted on the Gainesville Neighborhood Voices website

To recap, Commissioner Cynthia Chestnut hosted the first workshop held at the Massey Recreation Center on February 3rd, and Commissioner Desmon Duncan-Walker hosted the second at the Eastside Recreation Center on February 11th. There was generous support from City staff from many departments, for which we are very grateful.

We were extremely pleased with the turnout at both workshops, and we estimate that a total of approximately 150 people participated. The report explains how the workshops were organized, summarizes the input received, and provides detailed comments and recommendations on seven of the statutorily required elements of the plan. The report itself is found on pages 1-11, followed by four appendices. Appendix 2, “Comments from Gainesville Neighborhood Voices Comprehensive Plan Public Workshops,” contains feedback from those in attendance on pages 24-36.

It is our hope that the comments contained in this report will be incorporated into the next draft of the comprehensive plan, as they capture the concerns and aspirations of a large and diverse group of citizens.

We are very grateful for our Gainesville neighbors who made the time to attend these workshops and for those who have supported this effort financially through these recent years.

  • It’s nice two commissioners hosted public meetings in the Eastside. Let’s hope and work to make that area attractive to development again. There’s still plenty of vacant lands.

    • Workshops and Plans have been held and made for decades, including millions of dollars in consultant fees. But little to nothing has changed. We need real action and implementation, not more workshops, plans, and unheeded citizen and consultant recommendations. Ime to stop Kicking the can down the road and actually make important needed projects happen.

  • Thank you GNV neighbors for your thoughtful approach, analysis and recommendations.
A developer blank check was, in my opinion, what was on the table before y’all spoke up.
    Gainesville thanks you!
