Governor DeSantis issues Executive Order launching state investigation of second assassination attempt on former President Trump
Press release from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—Today, Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 24-197 directing Florida’s law enforcement agencies—the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP)—to investigate the assassination attempt against Donald Trump, refer violations of state law to the statewide prosecutor’s office for prosecution, and to surge resources to President Trump’s security detail needs in coordination with the former president and the Secret Service.
“I am assigning this case regarding the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump to the Office of the Statewide Prosecutor,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “I have directed state agencies to move expeditiously and to provide full transparency to the public.”
“This deranged would-be assassin broke Florida law, and we will not wait on the federal government to act,” said Attorney General Ashley Moody. “Florida is launching its own investigation, and I have directed my statewide prosecutors to assist FDLE and FHP as we work quickly to uncover the facts behind this latest attempt on President Trump’s life and provide trust and transparency to the American people.”
“Florida Highway Patrol and our Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence are committed to finding answers and taking action to ensure those responsible for the attempted assassination of President Trump are held accountable,” said Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Executive Director Dave Kerner. “We accept this mission with humility and know that with our law enforcement partners, Florida will get to the bottom of this. We will be transparent with the public and hold the suspect accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
“This act of domestic terrorism is unacceptable, and under the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis and Attorney General Ashley Moody, it will not stand,” said FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass. “The people of Florida deserve answers, and we will not stop until we know the truth and how we can best prevent similar attacks in Florida.”

We’ve had the “grassy knoll.”
I guess it was only a matter of time before we had a sand trap or water hazard.
Nice try Meatball, but the feds are in control at this point. Any competent individual would know this, and either you’re totally ignorant, or attempting to regain relevance, posture, and distract from the reality of our ongoing assault weapon crisis of your creation.
Weapons aren’t the crisis. Idiots who have access to them and shouldn’t are the crisis.
Every competent person knows that.
So you are saying that the correlation of gun ownership and deaths by gunfire is unproven, though the US leads the developed world in both stats, and it’s not even close. Interesting,……..or just BS propaganda by gun perverts.
Eastman, the MAJORITY of gun deaths in the US are suicides. The MAJORITY of gun deaths are from handguns. You and unreasonable observer should look at ACTUAL facts instead of feelings. If there are 10 MILLION ‘assault weapons’ in the hands of private citizens in the USA, and there are approximately 25 ‘mass shootings’ annually that are NOT gang-related, that means that an ‘assault weapon’ is used .0000025 of the time in criminal activity. It’s NOT a gun issue. Anyone with a basic 6th-grade level of math can comprehend that.
I’m not Eastman and you’re not Ted Yoho.
Sure, we’ll just accept the yearly death toll of kids
in schools and other public spaces by gun lovers armed with high velocity weapons that explode tissue and organs, just like they were designed to do, as the price of allowing gun perverts to practice their hobby. Seems fair. Or do you have a maximum number of dead kids you’d find acceptable beyond what we have now that you’d like to propose as acceptable?
By the way, national ID checks – favored by an overwhelming number of Americans – would apply to hand guns. Try to keep up.
Evidently they’re easier than getting a pager and for some, it’s more efficient in the controlled extermination of naturally reproducing protein sources in the proposed newly opened Alachua County preserve areas.
Could you imagine trying to chase a wild hog or deer through some of that brush trying to strap a pager? Not to mention where’s a squirrel going to even put one? To think they’re the only ones who have to deal with nuts…oh my!
One question. How did this liberal flake know that DJT would be at the golf club? He camped out there 11 hours. Kinda odd that he knew that DJT was going to play golf last minute when the press didnt know the schedule change? And right now at this point and time Federal law enforcement especially the FBI are corrupt and inept at the upper levels. They seem to overlook the potential threats when it comes to DJT and only concentrate on what the Soros Death Star tells them to investigate. Ryan Routh should gave been on every Federal Agency’s watch list since 2002 with his terrorist crimes. But no they let him continue without any checks. Same thing with the School Shooter in Ga. They received the tip and passed the buck since they are too busy making up investigations on political opponents outside of the Soros crowd.
Lets see, genious..
Pumpkin is in town at MAL (high security with high disruption factor there and no scheduled rallies / events) and decent weather means near 100% chance he’s gonna be on the links.
Site recon via google maps aerial, google earth or Apple Maps. That said, who would expect for him to choose the double secret stealth location near the gun club prominently noted on the online maps?
Just because the guy seems crazy, doesn’t mean that he’s stupid and incapable of planning without the assistance of Soros or the DOJ.
BTW – He’s a R dissatisfied with orange.
Unreasonable, YOUR candidate was quite orange after he was too pasty in his last debate, so cut the pumpkin epithet. And at one time, he WAS a Republican, but the last time he voted, it was as a Democrat, so cut the crap. And it’s ‘genius’….
Apparently Trump plays golf every Sunday when home, so not a big secret.
Routh should have never been able to buy a gun given his past record of arrests – none for terrorism. Did you expect him to have a full time tail on him? How many FBI agents do you think we have?
Cut the Soros crap. He is not the only or biggest billionaire corrupting our politics with money. Thank the GOP majority SC Citizen’s United ruling which unleashed this dirty money campaign against regular citizens. Democrats all favor it’s repeal.
Who helped Routh travel worldwide with his scary history, like 25 donations to DNC?
Either Soros or Kamala, right?
Idiot
When Jazz starts name calling someone has hit a nerve within his feeble broken predictable loser rhetoric . No real substance in that agenda.
Your opinion became irrelevant at calling our Governor a ‘meatball’. BTW, the heart of the trouble is that the ‘Feds’ are Not ‘in control’. As for the ‘assault weapon crisis’, even a dimwit must realize that rifles are employed in only a small percentage of criminal activity, with low-power, short-range weapons (pistols) being the weapon of choice. That said, the reason the Marxists in DC desire the restriction of rifles over pistols is that they personally fear the rifles much more. I will leave it to you to muddle through why that might be the case.
“…even a dimwit must realize that rifles are employed in only a small percentage of criminal activity…”
Absolutely, so why would anyone become upset about shooting kids in school or wish to do something about the easily obtained preferred weapon for that sport? You are so smart!
And you believe that the banning of a certain style of rifle will end school shootings? You are clearly a savant! Why would anyone interested in this ‘sport’ then not simply resort to a a mahogany stock rifle, or pistols?
Clay, here are some facts.
1. “Assault” rifles are the preferred weapon of school shooters.
2. These weapons were designed for killing other humans in war and are very efficient at that. Here’s why:
A. They are capable of shooting high velocity rounds of relatively small caliber. It is a basic law of physics that the damage from a moving object is directly proportional to it’s mass but squares by speed. These rounds explode tissue and organs even when only hitting adjacent to them. The damage if very often not fixable. You can read the reports of doctors who have treated these type wounds for verification. Google it.
B. Because the rounds are of relatively small caliber, there is less recoil, meaning the shooter maintains a high level of control while shooting.
Why are you defending the continued availability of these weapons, knowing they are the typical school shooting weapon, and they literally tear apart the young bodies of children. Sure, some fools will continue shooting up schools, but give the kids a fighting chance. WTH is wrong with us?
DeSantis does love to grab every opportunity to waste state funds and resources on a grandstanding adventure so he can show the world what a big man he is . . . in his cowboy boots with lifts or his white go-go boots.
Mr. Won’t Back Down, as long as he’s spending Florida’s money and not his own.
Worth repeating: You must really be disappointed with local government given their propensity for wasting taxpayers’ money.
I certainly am!
Alachua moderate voted for the pervert mayor of Tallahassee. Remember him.
Amen
Completely unnecessary and the usual posturing on his part. The federal government is handling and they’ll request assistance from FL if/when needed. Wasting taxpayers money. He’s so good at that.
You must really be disappointed with local government given their propensity for wasting taxpayers’ money.
I have no faith or trust in the Federal government. They’re corrupt and partisan.
The feds under Biden have been here in Florida after every hurricane and condo collapse and without the partisan BS. The Infrastructure Bill is spending money in red states and counties at an equal or higher rate than in blue, boosting manufacturing in places like Ohio and fiber optics in places like Trenton. It’s cornballs like DeSantis that try to make everything partisan and try to divide us.
Here’s an article on that money being spent in Vance’s hometown.

You must have been disappointed in how PARTISAN the recent Obama and Clinton admins were, right?
The federal government also handles the Secret Service. Yikes
You want the same people who staged the Sasse hire and appointed the 1st GRU Authority board running it?
Thank you, Jazz, for bringing up DeS’s responsibility for installing Sasse at UF so he could loot UF and state coffers at will.
The BOT knew about his spending all along so we’re still waiting to hear what the final nail in the coffin was – something was discovered that warranted Sasse’s ouster.
You’re mistaken. The University of Florida’s Board of Trustees is responsible for the irresponsible hiring of Ben Sasse, not the Governors Office. The current Chairman of UF’s Board of Trustees is Mori Husseini. The buck stops with him and the other trustees.
Also, the state has already launched and investigation into Ben Sasse. DeSantis and the Fla CFO announced that a month or so ago.
Wake up Pollyanna!
Husseini is one of DeSantis’s major donors and all of them his appointees. You think he had nothing to do with this cluster yuck?
No doubt the state will look under every rock and leave no stone unturned in a thorough effort to whitewas… I mean investigate this fiasco. Start with paying him $1 million a year severance for quitting – who made that decision?
And the hiring violated the “teams” own announced – and highly criticized – procedures which were to keep applicants secret until a small list of finalists was developed to be chosen from. That list never happened and they just handed it to Sasse.
Given that Sasse is reportedly getting $1 million a year until 2028, despite the act that he retired to take care of his wife he must have been fired. People who quit don’t get severance pay, so another lie no one is hurrying to correct. At least it’s less than Napier is probably going to get, but then Napier has done a much better job than Sasse.
Like the Ladipo hire, this smells bad, and some high ups should be held accountable at UF, BOard of Governors, and the state GOP.
Agree…I’m not about to defend Sasse or those who hired him. Let all of the dirt be exposed.
I was just stating that the Governors Office does not select university presidents. Contrarily, the Gov Office is who is currently investigating the issue.
Nonsense.. Whenever Pudding fingers calls, Mori jumps into action and says “yes” before the question is posed.
Private jet flights, Golf simulators, university presidents, and much more I’m sure. All in exchange for an i95 exit at his subdivision. The rest of the board is a bunch of Gov appointed R yes people.
I can’t recall in 40 years watching the Florida university system ever seeing anything resembling the current steak of appointments of obviously incompetent university presidents like we’ve seen under Rhona.
Indeed, and here’s the new dean who put the 3 year expulsion on the non-violent protestors he disagreed with:
“Prior to joining the University of Florida, Dr. Summerlin served as the Dean of Campus Life at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) for four years. … Dr. Summerlin earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Brewton-Parker College, followed by a Master of Education in Instructional Technology from American InterContinental University, and a Doctorate in Leadership for Higher Education from Capella University….”
Sure, from that resume to Dean of one of the highest ranked public universities with an enrollment over 60,000. Who could question that?
PS Anyone ever heard of even 1 of those 4 schools he attended or worked at?
Attempted Murder is NOT a federal jurisdiction, for one reason. The FDLE can keep him locked up longer.
That’s the problem. The federal government is handling it. We all saw the fatty girl trying to holster her gun in butler, pa.
More transparency without the conflict of interest. Thank you, Governor DeSantis for making sure there is no cover-up.
I hope the feds do an admirable job investigating. I really do. But I think it is wise to have a parallel investigation that’s not answering to the political opposition during a tight election. The lawfare and previous security lapses leave many of us uncomfortable with the status quo.
This yokel has a bigger conflict of interest – he owes his career to Trump and has already said he’d protect him from prosecution on his many charges.
Here’s the governor kissing big fat orange butt. What a toad.

Both shooters were groomed by the Mainstream “news” and likely by the 🤡Deep State global Illuminati as well. We cannot trust the same Feds trying to jail Trump, to “investigate” the attempts.
Sure, because Trump never said that if Harris wins we’d have no country left, or that she was part of the enemy, or made jokes about Nancy Pelosi’s husband being attacked at home with a hammer, or that his followers had to fight or they’d have no country, or that certain people were vermin, or that Haitians are eating people’s cats and dogs. No, none of that ever happened.
Nobody is perfect, except JESUS, but, I think Governor DeSantis does the best with what he has to work with, I would have voted for him, and will vote for him, If he runs for the Presidency of this fallen country.
So, that’s your number 1 and 2 of heroes, huh? Where’s Kid Rock come in?
Pretty good number 1. Everyday it’s looking more and more like he’d be a great choice. Probably a great idea for others to pick him too.
