Governor Ron DeSantis announces efforts to correct census undercount

Press release from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis

LAKE WORTH, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced his support for an update to the 2020 Decennial Census, which could potentially yield additional congressional seats for Florida. Governor DeSantis was joined by Attorney General Uthmeier, who has been a leading voice in the fight for a corrected census and proper reapportionment to ensure that Floridians have the representation they deserve in Congress.

“Even the Biden administration acknowledged that Florida got shortchanged in the reapportionment stemming from the last census,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “My office is working with Attorney General Uthmeier in our mission to secure Floridians’ due representation in Congress and to fix mistakes that have been identified in the aftermath of the 2020 Census.”

“Florida was robbed by the left’s multi-year effort to rig the 2020 Census, and Floridians didn’t get the representation they deserve in Congress,” said Attorney General James Uthmeier. “President Trump called for a new census, and I’m ready to work with Governor DeSantis to bring solutions to the president and get it done.”

Updated data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 Post-Enumeration Survey shows that Florida was one of the most undercounted states during the 2020 Decennial Census. Florida’s population in 2020 was undercounted by nearly 3.5% according to PES data. Additionally, Florida has gained nearly 2 million new residents since 2019, many of whom are not accounted for by the Census Bureau’s initial 2020 reports. All of these factors display how Florida is vastly underrepresented in Congress under the Census Bureau’s current apportionment.

  • Good grief… one minute they’re in a tear that ejections are rigged and illegals are being counted and now not enough people in Florida are being counted!

  • This is a form of rigging elections. Republicans are so afraid they can’t win on merit. See also: Texas.

  • Yes we need to jump on the partisan band wagon to insure that all voters are counted to please Trump ,the GOP and ignore the non partisan district maps that should be created.

  • What a jooooke. trump ended the Census Oct 28,2020. It ran for less than 2 months and was handled by him and Wilbur , disastrously their fault

  • Get this creep out of our face! Cripes, between him and the prez, there’s no air time for anything or anything else.

Now Ron wants a cookie from the GOP for being one of 1st lap dogs up on the couch – 1st for the concentration camps and now this absurdity. The US constitution stupulates redistricting after 10 year census counts, not whenever fat ass liar on the Potomac sees he’s going to lose the next election.

  • From the link (US Census Bureau) in the press release:

“The PES confirms that while there were overcounts and undercounts in the 2020 Census, they were not outside the range of variability we have come to expect from prior decades.

The 2010 PES estimated that no states had statistically significant undercounts or overcounts in the 2010 Census. In the 2000 Census, the PES estimated 22 states and the District of Columbia had statistically significant undercounts or overcounts….

We assessed that the 2020 Census was fit for the purposes of apportionment and redistricting upon their release and after rigorous quality review protocols, and that assessment remains valid.

As with previous decennial censuses, the PES informs the strengths and limitations of the 2020 census and provides a foundation for the Census Bureau’s work to improve the next census. It has never been intended to change a decennial Census count….”

  • The authoritarian train is gaining momentum every day. We can’t let that happen. They don’t like the numbers fire the messenger, destroy institutional process, bring in the troops, ignore judges, threaten dissenters. Resist this madness.
