Press release from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis issued a proclamation announcing the call for a special Session of the Florida Legislature to address the topic of Congressional redistricting.

“Every Florida resident deserves to be represented fairly and constitutionally,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Today, I announced that I will be convening a Special Session of the Legislature focused on redistricting to ensure that Florida’s Congressional maps accurately reflect the population of our state and to comply with an upcoming U.S. Supreme Court ruling. This Special Session will take place after the regular legislative session, which will allow the Legislature to first focus on the pressing issues facing Floridians before devoting its full attention to Congressional redistricting in April.”

The Governor’s proclamation outlines the specific subject to be considered during the special session, consistent with Article 3(c)(1) of the Florida Constitution. Lawmakers will convene in Tallahassee commencing at 12:00 p.m., Monday, April 20, and extend no later than 11:59 p.m., Friday, April 24. During this time, the Legislature is convened for the sole and exclusive purpose of considering legislation relating to the drawing of Congressional districts for the state of Florida and appropriating additional funds for any legal challenges thereto.

Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd has also issued a directive declaring 2026 as a year of apportionment for candidate qualification.

  • LMAO… “year of apportionment.” Takes heretofore unseen levels of cynicism to dub desperate attempts at partisan gerrymandering as anything related to the spirit of apportionment. The Trumpists are getting desperate.

  • Cheaters gonna cheat. Party before country.
Is he going to steal millions of taxpayers funds again to ensure he gets his way once more.

  • Ron hurrying again to be 1st on Trump bit…ches train. Our constitution forbids gerrymandering to benefit political parties, and anyone who thinks this isn’t that is just the dumb sucker the GOP seeks to appeal to. Given our courts are all Ron appointees now that the GOP forced retiements, of course our constitution is meaningless now.
