Governor Ron DeSantis appoints Douglas Broxson to the Board of Governors of the State University System

Press release from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Senator Douglas Broxson to the Board of Governors of the State University System. A respected leader in the Florida Legislature during his many years of service, Broxson worked with the Governor on generational wins in education and other areas.

“As a leader in education reform, Senator Doug Broxson has stood by my side as we acted to support parental rights, eliminate DEI, reform tenure, and invest in teacher salaries,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “I am proud to appoint Senator Broxson to the Board of Governors, and I know he will continue his great work to ensure Florida remains the number one state in the country for higher education.”

Douglas Broxson

Broxson is the President of Doug Broxson Insurance. He has a long history of public service, having served in the Florida House of Representatives representing Districts 1 and 3 from 2010 to 2016 and in the Florida Senate representing District 1 from 2016 to 2024. Broxson held several key leadership positions, including Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education and Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. In addition to his work on education reform, he was instrumental in spearheading tort reform, a major driving force in lowering home and auto insurance premiums for Floridians.

Active in his community, Broxson is a member of the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club and the Florida Association of Insurance Agents. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Evangel University.

Broxson replaces Patricia Frost, who has served since 2010. Governor DeSantis appreciates her long and dedicated service to the State University System.

This appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

  • Another reactionary political hack with zero experience or affinity for academic institutions. These guys are ruining our state university system – including failing to defend them from federal cuts in research funding – in ways that will be obvious soon as the best faculty leave or do not apply for positions here. Idiots dictating curriculum down to details and ending free speech on campus are guaranteed losers. UF didn’t get to it’s current ranking positions that way and won’t stay there long.
