Governor Ron DeSantis commemorates Victims of Communism Day
Press release from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis
MIAMI, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis joined Floridians across our great state in commemorating Victims of Communism Day, a solemn day of remembrance for the more than 100 million men, women, and children who lost their lives under communist regimes. Governor DeSantis signed House Bill 395 into law in 2022, which established Victims of Communism Day in Florida and required students to learn about the failures and atrocities of communist regimes.
“Three years ago, I signed legislation to designate November 7th as Victims of Communism Day in the state of Florida,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “We remember those who demonstrated courage, made sacrifices, and endured hardship while fighting for freedom and against communism. We must ensure the students learn the lessons of history, recognize the destructiveness of Marxism-Leninism, and appreciate the founding principles of the American republic.”
“Communism has destroyed nations, silenced faith, and robbed generations of their God-given freedoms,” said Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas. “Florida stands firmly against this failed ideology and remains committed to teaching the truth about its atrocities. By confronting the evils of communism, we reaffirm our state’s enduring belief in liberty and the power of education to preserve freedom and our American way of life.”
Instruction on Victims of Communism Day must include topics such as:
- Vladimir Lenin and the Russian Revolution
- Joseph Stalin and the Soviet System
- Mao Zedong and the Cultural Revolution
- Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution
- Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge
- Nicolás Maduro and the Chavismo movement
In 2024, Governor DeSantis expanded Florida’s commitment to teaching students the lasting consequences of communism by signing Senate Bill 1264 into law. This bill requires comprehensive instruction on the history of communism, beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.
The Florida Department of Education convened Florida educators and content experts to develop rigorous state academic standards to provide students with a deep understanding of how communist regimes have suppressed freedoms, abused power, and inflicted suffering across the world. The State Board of Education is expected to take action on the proposed History of Communism standards at their upcoming meeting on November 13.

We should worry more about the victims of the Gainesville City Commission regime.
Yeah, so take that North Korea and Cuba! You’re threat of world domination will be met by the aryan white men of our Dept of War.
Noteworthy that he doesn’t have a problem with fascists.
You wouldn’t know a fascist (or an ‘Aryan’) if it bit you on the the leg.
Putin, Orban, X Jinping, various mid-eastern and African strong men, and Trump. DeSantis aspires to be a fascist.
“- a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control.”
Clay, there are 2 of them biting on your leg that you don’t seem to know.
From the dude who openly voted for the freak Gillum
Public schools in Blue states need revamped, so we don’t keep getting invaded by their expats.
I hope this instruction also includes the history of the knee-jerk reaction that resulted in the Red Scare and McCarthyism of the 1950s and its subsequent failures. Otherwise, this administration is engaging in the literal present-day definition of indoctrination (uncritical acceptance of a belief) that it decries. Context helps, unless you have an agenda.
Historically, indoctrination was only the imparting of doctrine, and doctrine just refers to a body of teachings. It comes from the Latin words doctor (teacher) and docere (to teach). Teaching facts is fine, and we can hope that those taught will always ask plenty of questions. But teaching just some of the facts with an eye toward manipulating those taught to react to the teaching in a particular way (e.g., communism is bad, capitalism is good) is the modern definition of indoctrination, which is also known as brainwashing.
But don’t just take my word for it. Look it up.
It should be noted that Trump – who DeSantis strongly supports and sucks up to – is going to send recent Cuban refugees back home whom Biden had granted special asylum status to. So, this is just pure BS propaganda.
“Cuban exiles were shielded from deportation. Now Trump is cracking down
Amid record arrivals of migrants from the Caribbean island, Trump in March revoked temporary humanitarian parole for about 300,000 Cubans. Many have been detained ahead of possible deportation…”

When I was in High School, a required-for-graduation course in Florida was ‘Americanism versus Communism’ (CVC). My course was taught by a Cuban refugee. His stories were real and gripping. If we had this real education in schools again, it would be a game-changer.
I had that class, but why would it be a game changer now when there are only 2 very minor countries that are communist left and there virtually no avowed arxists still left. When the course was taught – by the football coach in my high school – 1/2 the world was under the subjugation of communist governmemts aggressively seeking to spread their ideology and many willing followers already spread around the world. You’re as out of it as DeSantis in misidentifying modern threats.
Where is DeSantis on this crap from his mentor?
“The plan (new oil drilling leases) also envisions expanding drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, an area where drilling has generally been avoided because it faces stiff opposition from many in Florida who fear an oil spill could spoil their beaches and devastate the tourism industry. The administration is considering lease sales there in 2029 and 2030.”
