TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the reappointment of Virginia Johns to the Suwannee River Water Management District.
Virginia Johns
Johns is the Vice President of John C. Hipp Construction Equipment Company. Active in her community, she serves as a member of the City of Alachua Planning and Zoning Board, the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Gainesville Alumni Association, and the Builders Association of North Central Florida. Johns earned her associate degree from Santa Fe College and an interior design degree from Bauder College.
This appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
Every member of this board except one is in a type of business with a conflict of interest with clean springs and rivers.
If we elect Republicans, this is what we get.
Actually, Virginia has a perpective on how to manage development design to create the least negative impact on the environment. From her firsthand business experience she has seen what engineers propose and knows how to address faulty assumptions and downright ignorance of planners. She is a great fit for this position.
Maybe so, and let’s hope so, but she’s in the construction industry which is not a crime, but that’s the friends and interests she’ll most likely represent.
Where’s the biologists and water quality experts and advocates – see any? This is the organization which is overseeing the steady decline in our water and springs.
Remember the ballot amendment which passed maybe 10 years ago and said that a tax on real estate transaction would be used to fund spring’s restoration? Yeah, we all forgot, which was the clear intent of the GOP legislature and governors who modified into nothingness.
