Governor Ron DeSantis receives two bills from the Florida Legislature

Press release from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis received the following bills from the Florida Legislature. The Governor has until March 1, 2024 to act on these bills.

CS/HB 1 – Online Protections for Minors
CS/HB 1377 – Public Records

  • Just because many of those in favor of this legislation can’t, or won’t, control their children’s online activities doesn’t mean I want government doing it to mine.
    Bad idea as written.

    • Government has no business overreaching like this. I agree that social media and a large portion of the internet in general is terrible for kids (and adults) —but it is not the governments job to police this stuff.

As a parent, I would never let my young children on social media but that decision should be between my wife and I…not the government.

Fed, state, local and multinational governments are all growing at an out of control rate…Doing everything they can to accumulate more and more power over our daily lives

    • won’t happen until the state gives Dade, Broward, PB and Orange counties to New York State.

  • All this time Republicans have led many to believe they wanted less government intrusion into people’s lives.
This law as proposed contradicts that.
I think they want to make government the bad guy so they can stay “friends” with their kids instead of being parents.

    • Agree! Both party’s are exceptional at positioning themselves as the one and only savior. And their bases buy it almost every time.

In this instance the big tech companies and the fed govt were the bad guys and the state govt, acting as the good guy, was forced to step in and save the day. It’s all BS that is contrived in order to gain even more control over us slaves
