Governor Ron DeSantis signs Heartbeat Protection Act

Press release from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed SB 300, the Heartbeat Protection Act, which prohibits abortions once the unborn child has a detectible heartbeat.
“We are proud to support life and family in the state of Florida,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “I applaud the Legislature for passing the Heartbeat Protection Act that expands pro-life protections and provides additional resources for young mothers and families.”
While other states like California and New York have legalized infanticide up until birth, Governor DeSantis has enacted historic measures to defend the dignity of human life and transform Florida into a pro-family state. In 2022, Governor DeSantis signed groundbreaking legislation to encourage responsible and involved fatherhood in Florida through educational programs, mentorship programs, and one-on-one support. Also in 2022, Governor DeSantis signed SB 7034, which expands support for foster parents and opportunities for foster children. In 2021, Governor DeSantis signed SB 2518, which helps reduce maternal mortality rates by extending postpartum eligibility for Medicaid from 60 days to 12 months post-delivery.
In addition to legislating pro-family policies, this year’s Framework for Freedom Budget includes permanent sales tax exemptions for baby and toddler necessities, including cribs and strollers, as well as tax holidays on children’s books, toys, athletic equipment, and pet food. It includes more than $96 million to support foster parents, caregivers, and children. It also includes nearly $143 million to enhance services for pregnant and postpartum women and children, which will improve maternal health outcomes for women at high risk for maternal morbidity.
All of these measures combined show that Florida is truly committed to building a culture of life by adopting family-first policies and protecting life at all stages.
Alachua Chronicle editor’s note: According to a Florida Senate analysis of the bill, “The provisions of the bill, other than the expansion of the pregnancy support network and the appropriations which are effective upon becoming law, are effective 30 days after one of several events occurs. These events include a Florida Supreme Court ruling overturning In re T.W., or one of several other related cases; a Florida Supreme Court ruling stating that the privacy clause in the Florida Constitution does not protect the right to abortion; or an amendment to the Florida Constitution which provides the same.”
GOOD FOR YOU RONALDUS MAGNAMUS. NOW CUT THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL TAXES ON REAL PROPERTY AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE COST OF ENERGY. IF YOUR BUDGET HAS EXCESS, YOU ARE TAXING THE CITIZENRY EXCESS…GIVE IT BACK. UNLIKE THE AUTO TAG/TITLE TAXES THAT WHERE SUPPOSE TO BE GIVEN BACK. DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.
Hallelujah and amen!
Roe was unconstitutional and degraded vulnerable women and children, only helped Hollyweird overall. Now, men have to be good fathers. That’s better for women, kids and men too. School behavior issues and crime will decline as well. District 1 might attract new retail…
Thank you Governor DeSantis! 😊
Many should be happy about this. It protects the innocent but provides for exceptions.
What’s easier, keeping guns out of the hands of criminals or keeping one’s feet on the ground?
We know by current events it’s definitely not the former.
15 weeks is reasonable. Now Ron DeSantis assured himself of defeat in a general election.
Just know that this runs counter to national sentiment. The law we had before IMO was perfectly reasonable.
heartbeats start around week 3-4 of pregnancy (can be detected via vaginal ultrasound), most women don’t realize they are pregnant until after that (missed period or other symptoms). If they are looking for an abortion this is because it was an accident (failed contraceptive) and the pregnant person will not know until after at the least 4 weeks. now this applies to the responsible people who are doing everything they can to not get pregnant (contraceptives) not people who are doing nothing to prevent a pregnancy.
Too bad this law doesn’t REQUIRE anything of the father, nor does it provide ANY medical care for the mother.
DeSantis just cut his own throat, which is good news to me, but not worth the pain, loss of freedom, and control of their lives women have always sought, no matter the law. The GOP will ride this to permanent minority status. As it is they haven’t won a vote for President but 1 time out of the last 8 elections and have not had senators representing a majority of America’s population since the 90’s. With abortion and guns – not to mention an ageing base, they are cementing their decline.
The dumbing down and moral decay of America continues.
