July 7, 2021

Press release from Gainesville Police Department
With the assistance of our neighbors, Gainesville Police Department Detectives identified and arrested Jay Edward Cocuzzo (DOB: 06/04/61) as the suspect who entered and robbed the PNC Bank, located at 4340 Newberry Road, on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. Cocuzzo has been charged with one count of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery.
Thank you to everyone who called in with tips that led to this arrest.
Did he forget to wear his mask when he robbed the bank???
More like he forgot to wear his sunglasses.
He wore his mask when he robbed the bank to conceal
His identity….his mask is off now. His robbery charge
Should be upgraded because he wore a mask…the
Bigger question is: is this one of the inmates released
Into our community so “they can build back better” according to Poe? He looks like one of the panhandlers
I saw recently near University & 13th Street…
Maybe PO Boy should give him a hug and accept a promise not to do it again. Then get him on one of those felon paychecks so he won’t need to rob. Or better yet, all day daycare provide by the city will keep him out of trouble.
I love it when it’s funny & true…
Thanks!😃
I’m sooooo confused. He was charged with 2 counts of attempted robbery and 1 count of robbery?
That’s part of the problem…he either robbed the bank or he didn’t. Giving the potential defense a “bargaining” point is self-defeating to the justice system.
Let him move in with one of the sitting city commissioners for rehabilitation…birds of a feather tend to flock together anyway.
He has a long criminal history as a bank robber and likely not much bargaining power.

“He had a family that loved him,” she said. “But he never really did much of anything because of his drugs.”
He is divorced with a 12-year-old son [in 1999], and tried to make a living drawing, painting figures, and doing odd jobs.
She didn’t even know when he came to Florida, or why.
“He gets out [of jail] and does something to get back in,” she said. “We were kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop.”
