GPD asks public for help identifying persons of interest in downtown shooting on May 18

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Sunday, May 18, 2025, at approximately 12:45 a.m., during a high school prom afterparty event, there was a disturbance/physical altercation in the area of SW 1st Ave/SW 1st St that led to shots being fired and one juvenile victim being struck. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Two unidentified persons of interest were captured on surveillance video. One is a white male with blond hair in a bun wearing a dark-colored shirt, shorts, and dark-colored shoes, and the other is a white male wearing a purple-ish shirt and ball cap. In the surveillance video angles provided, both individuals can be seen running away after the shooting.

I don’t think you know what you are talking about. I was on University and main when it happened, but didn’t see the exchange directly. Cops swarmed from everywhere in like 5 min or less… There were lots of dangerous groups out lol

This surprises me that it was two young white people involved. There have probably been 10 downtown shootings in a row that involved black on black crime. I have little doubt that if you listen to what music is blasting in these kids’ car you will find gangster rap music. This music is truly poisoning our young people’s minds.
A shooting? Imagine that.
I think it’s normal to run away from gunfire? And they don’t exactly “fit the profile” – to say the least. Why weren’t more cops there in the first place? I guess that particular street was blocked off by an inept moron mayor against the wishes of the downtown advisory board and 40+ downtown business owners… that’s one reason.
So I’m almost blind, but at first glance, the 2nd picture looks more like someone wearing a sheet. Second glance, it’s definitely not Casper running.
