GPD asks the public for help identifying suspects in animal cruelty case

Staff report from Gainesville Police Department release
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville Police Department (GPD) is seeking help in identifying suspect(s) who abandoned an 8-week-old poodle in the parking lot of the Publix at 3720 NW 13th Street; the dog is in critical condition and may not survive.
At about 9:55 a.m. on June 3, unidentified suspect(s) were captured on Publix surveillance cameras, arriving and leaving in a gold Toyota Camry with noticeable damage on the driver’s side door area, as well as the rear panel area. It appears that one of the suspects is a light-skinned younger black male.
As of June 4, the dog is in critical condition and may not survive. It is suffering from an unknown virus or toxin that has progressed due to the lack of care provided by its owners. The dog was found locked inside a crate with no food or water and was unresponsive.
GPD urges anyone with information regarding this incident to call 352-955-1818 or remain anonymous by contacting Alachua County Crime Stoppers at 352-372-7867 or www.stopcrime.tv
Devil’s spawn – neglecting and abandoning a helpless animal that loved them unconditionally. The lowest of the low….
Put the suspects in a cage, with No Food or Water!😡
WTF! Whoever this is apparently placed the dog where other humans with maybe more resources might take care of it. They didn’t drop it at the end of a country road. Maybe they didn’t have the heart to drown or shoot it, or the money to pay a vet to “put it down”.
I’ve had numerous pets over my life and have taken good care of them. They all lived long lives with maximum freedom – cats come and go, dogs outside except on cold nights (we live in the country) – and regular vet visits (mobile pet doc). What I hear about current vet pricing and human like procedures unheard of in “the old days” makes part of me glad that our last pet was the last one we got when we still had kids at home. In “the old days”, pets weren’t substitute kids who you started trust funds for in case they outlived you (that’s a joke) but with modern sensibility I suppose only those with a degree and 6 figure income are deemed responsible enough to get a dog for their kids. This is nuts.
It takes a really “special” kind of person to torture/abuse animals and kids. I hope this poor puppy recovers and goes to a good home and I hope the woman that did this to him gets what she deserves and it won’t be pretty. What a disgusting human being.
