GPD investigates death of man near GRACE Marketplace bus stop

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville Police Department is investigating a fatal crash yesterday in which a box truck hit a 49-year-old man who was standing in the bicycle lane near the bus stop outside GRACE Marketplace (2800 block of NE 39th Avenue).
According to a release from GPD, on July 14 at approximately 6:25 p.m., officers responded to the 2800 block of NE 39th Avenue following a crash involving a box truck and a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation indicates the 49-year-old male pedestrian was standing in the marked eastbound bicycle lane near the RTS bus stop. The box truck was traveling eastbound in the curbside lane when the collision occurred.
Witnesses reported that the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk and stated they heard the impact. Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian deceased.
The crash remains under investigation. No additional information has been released at this time.

Standing in the road, bike lane, etc is not the wisest of decisions along NE 39th Ave.
