GPD investigating shooting at Point West Apartments

On Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at approximately 11:07 p.m., multiple Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers responded to reports of shots fired and a male screaming for help at Point West Apartments (512 SW 34th Street). After arriving to the scene, officers discovered a male victim in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to UF Health Shands and was released earlier today.
Further investigation revealed that the victim was inside an apartment when he was struck in his neck by gunfire.
This remains an ongoing open criminal investigation. GPD detectives believe this was a targeted shooting and an isolated incident, not connected to any other crime.

Chances are:
1) firearm in the possession of a convicted felon,
2) the alleged shooter knew the victim,
3) connected to other criminal activities,
4) the alleged shooter lacked much, if any, parental discipline during formative early childhood,
5) all of the above.
