GPD investigating shooting death discovered while fighting apartment fire

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a victim who was discovered inside an apartment by firefighters.
At about 1:39 p.m. today, firefighters responded to a fire at The Commons (2001 SW 16th Street). While inside an apartment, firefighters found a deceased victim with a gunshot wound and a firearm. The fire and death are still under investigation.
Is the Commons a new luxury student apt complex, or one of the publicly owned apt complexes off SW 13th Street?
It apparently used to be the Country Gardens. It’s an older complex that used to have a lot of people presumably working at Shands because of the location. It’s become a lot more ghetto over the last few years.
Before any of the typical comments come out, the gunshot may have been self-inflicted.
