Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville Police Department is investigating at least 20 shots fired tonight in the Ridgeview neighborhood.

According to a GPD spokesman, numerous officers heard shots fired in the area of the Ridgeview neighborhood, and 911 callers enabled officers to narrow down the location to the area of 2000 NW 31st Place, where at least 20 shell casings, both handgun and .223, were found. There were no injuries reported.

A black sedan was seen leaving the area. Officers are on scene, but no suspects have been identified.

  • This 💩 here gets crazy everyday it’s not call Gainesville fla no more it’s call murder ville damn shame

  • I think Mayor Ward’s efforts, pathetic as they are, are actually making the problem worse.

  • I think republicans are pathetic for allowing people to carry guns without a permit. That’s why there’s a surge in gun violence

      • Into the gun violence here! Most are with stolen guns by convicted felons… hmmm let’s talk about that 18 yr old just arrested for premeditated murder and had a troubled past with a gun charge as a youth… make that make sense! Oops certainly not what you said ole Paulie … do you want a cracker?!

    • Paulie: convicted felons are prohibited from having guns!

Your mental disorder may be the result of too many Covid shots. Please triple mask yourself so you don’t spread your stupidity.

      • No doubt the convicted felons would turn their guns in if they realized this.

Look, as those on the right keep insisting, except when it comes to gun ownership, criminals DGD about those laws and neither do teenage wanna’ bes. They can purchase stolen guns or those purchased out of trunk of a car and for cheap. Why? How? Supply and demand. There are way too many guns out there and they can be purchased without traceable records and without punishment for those who let them out of their control.

Kids on bikes with pistols? Sure, why not? What did we expect?

        • yeah, but yet but on the other hand I bet you think stricter Gun Control would keep criminals from having guns. 😉 it’s working really well in Chicago. lol

    • Do you really believe that the thugs are law-abiding? How would a permit law affect them? BTW, rifles, like the .223 caliber weapon(s) used in this event are hardly personal carry weapons.

    • While it is highly doubtful you believe what you said has any validity, it remains a stupid assertion.

    • You did it again. You got the “IDIOT” award again today. Congratulations Have a nice day

    • Sure genius, those are the prior felons adhering to current restrictions and laws regarding firearms. Besides crackers, what else is Ward feeding you?

    • Criminals supported by demorats don’t need permits.. if demorats judges will keep criminals in jail, we wouldn’t have this issue.. this is typical in any city run by democraps.. do your research before writing!

    • With comments like that it’s obvious who shouldn’t be allowed to have a firearm.
      Convicted or not.

  • Sounds like warning shot’s for someone who has not turned in their dope sales money.

  • I hope the rogue weapons are caught and severely punished.

  • Shoot’em up Gville! Pop a cap into each other and hopefully you’ll be gone.

    • Hateu, Democrat policies ARE the cause of much of this. Why am I guessing you are a Democrat or other type of left wing brainwashed?

  • I love all the liberal comments about rationalizing the rodent problem. The new current carry law was recently passed so it not the cause of the current
violence. This violence started back during Covid crisis and has steadily grew to what it is now. Look at all the BS TV shows/series/video games that depict gang/drug dealing/organized crime as a fulfilling lifestyle. Nothing could be further from the truth. If guns are not being used its knives, baseball bats, cars, etc. It’s not a gun problem period. It’s the fault of the court system, State Attorney, Public Defender, and City and County government. Low Bail, no bail, reduced sentences, BS probation and Pre trial orders are not working. When the animals are free to roam outside their cages this is what happens. Law enforcement is seemingly doing its job to put them in jail it after that where it’s screwed up. Instead of worrying about free phone calls and how many minutes you get on phones, and handcuffing jail personnel for someone’s stupid agenda (PRIZZIA)
Maybe building three more stories onto the jail for more cells is better suited. Either keep these animals in jail or culling is needed. Whatever is cheaper.

  • Thank goodness none of these gangstas have ever attended a NRA gun training course. If they had, they would be better shots. Fire 20 times and no one hit? Gangstas can’t aim.

  • Very concerning. I hope GPD gets to it quick. Probably some rental house punks.

  • Well Well. Ridgeview shootings strike again. Hmmm, last time Mr. Antonio Mayze was “in the area” and his vehicle matched the description.. and guess what, they found a pistol is his silver sedan. Oh wait… he’s out again? A charge of firearm possession by a convicted felon was dropped? Nice work! What a joke.

  • As most of you know, the guns aren’t the problem. We could ban them and confiscate them. They’d still flow through the borders, and like most other countries with porous borders, they would only be in the hands of government agents and criminals, who are often one and the same. Gun violence is a social problem with one solution—heart change. Founding Father James McHenry:

[P]ublic utility pleads most forcibly for the general distribution of the Holy Scriptures. Without the Bible, in vain do we increase penal laws and draw entrenchments around our institutions.

Bibles are strong protections. Where they abound, men cannot pursue wicked courses and at the same time enjoy quiet conscience.
