GPD makes child exploitation arrest

Press release from Gainesville Police Department

On March 3, 2022, the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Division, with the assistance of GPD SWAT, served a search warrant at 3009 SW Archer Road, Apt. D2. The investigation was prompted after an unknown user, accessing a peer-to-peer network, shared child sexual abuse videos with an undercover GPD detective. The child sexual abuse material (CSAM), nine videos in total, were horrific in nature and included prepubescent children.

Gainesville Police Department Detective Corporal Matthew Holt interviewed both residents of 3009 SW Archer Road, Apt. D2. One of the residents, identified as Jinru Yang (DOB: 09/01/1996), acknowledged using the peer-to-peer network in question. Yang also admitted to downloading videos of 14-18 year olds engaged in sexual activity through this peer-to-peer network. However, he denied having videos of any prepubescent children on his devices.

A preliminary analysis of Yang’s computer revealed one of the videos that Yang shared with an undercover GPD detective. Additionally, four other videos of CSAM were located on his computer. Complete forensic analysis of Yang’s devices is still pending.

Yang was taken into custody by GPD Detective Corporal Matthew Holt and charged with 4 counts of Possession of Child Pornography and 1 count of Distribution of Child Pornography.

The Gainesville Police Department wants parents to be aware that children are being solicited and exploited through social networking applications and networks.
