GPD makes multiple arrests after Midtown shooting

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gregory Frazier, 31, of Ocala; Bruce Wynne Garniss, 20; and Gene Rubin Rowe, Jr., 26, were arrested early this morning after allegedly running from officers who were investigating a shooting near the 1000 block of W. University Avenue. Garniss was reportedly found with a gunshot in the leg and transported to the hospital.

Several Gainesville Police Department Officers heard gunshots around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning, and multiple calls were received about the gunshots.

A responding officer reportedly saw Frazier and Rowe walking south through the parking lot in the 1100 block of Alligator Alley. They were reportedly in a “heightened state of emotion” and met up with two other men before walking toward the west; one could be heard saying, “And you’re to going to run?”

Occupants of a vehicle leaving the parking lot reportedly flagged down the officer and told him that the four men were involved in the shooting.

An officer drove toward the group, made contact with them in the 1100 block of SW 1st Avenue, and ordered them to stop. One man walked north on SW 12th Street, and the other three, later identified as Frazier, Garniss, and Rowe, fled toward the east, back toward the parking lot. Officers in the area of the parking lot apprehended the three men; Garniss was reportedly found hiding in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to the arrest reports for Frazier and Rowe, the individual who had walked north on SW 12th Street reportedly had a gun with the slide locked back, indicating that it had been fired until it was empty. Alachua Chronicle was unable to obtain any further information about that individual.

Frazier and Rowe were transported to GPD Headquarters for questioning, and Garniss was transported to an emergency room to be treated for the gunshot wound.

Frazier was charged with resisting an officer without violence. He has an extensive criminal history in Marion County, with at least eight felony convictions and four state prison sentences; his most recent release was in April 2023.

Garniss’ charges are unavailable. He has juvenile criminal convictions and is on probation for two adult felony convictions for possession of a firearm by a delinquent (juvenile convicted of an offense that would be a felony for an adult) and tampering with evidence.

Rowe has been charged with resisting an officer without violence. He has one felony conviction and five misdemeanor convictions; he has served one state prison sentence for unarmed robbery and was released in 2019.

Bail will be set tomorrow for Frazier; Rowe has been released on bail, but the amount is currently unavailable because court records are not posted on weekends. Garniss has not been booked into the jail yet.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

        • Dumb a.s.

“Frazier was charged with resisting an officer without violence. He has an extensive criminal history in Marion County, with at least eight felony convictions and four state prison sentences; ..”

  • This is nothing really new around this town,
So my personal sentiment has simply become,,,
“As long as y’all keep it amongst y’all selves” …

  • If only they had learned all the new acronyms the city has come up with to stop gun violence.

    • The only “impacts” we’re going to see are those created by all the bullets flying around Gainesville.

  • Eventually they will all eliminate each other and we can feel safe in our streets again. The sooner the better.

  • Why weren’t the City Commissioners and Mayor out giving guidance on allowable activities? Thought they wanted to take an impact for the City.

  • They were reportedly in a “heightened state of emotion” and met up with two other men before walking toward the west; one could be heard saying, “And you’re to going to run?”

Nope, they only run from the police. Some things can’t be fixed or removed from a person. They will never have respect for authority but will always demand it. It’s in their upbringing and culture, and sadly, only one way to remove it and protect society.

    By the way, I wasn’t in mid-town – don’t blame me.

      • I know the City & some in the County have handed out blinders, but it’s safe to take them off.
        They won’t stop bullets anyway.

      • Dumb question. Everybody except you knows who “they” are and “their” culture.

  • Thug life is the thug life. Ocala breeds nothing but problems when t hff e travel to Alachua County. I’m sure it over a gang color, friend girl, drugs, or plain stupidity. Everyone involved are convucted felons on probation or ex convicts. I’m sure their families are proud of their accomplishments since they seem to have excelled so much. Rowe has one if those ugly green spots on his forehead that resembles a bullseye.

  • Maybe they should shut the bars & breweries down @ 11 a.m.‼️

    All the bums/vagrants/panhandlers/
Squatters/miscreants should be rounded up and brought to Grace Marketplace by sundown!

Only local bums can get temporary assistance and send back all vagrants/climate refugees back to where they came from.

Get tough prosecuting all crime so you know to stay out of the system!

Bails should be high and jail hell so you stop the BS!

  • You would think it would be safe to send you child to get an education at UF.

We should not have to see a vagrant loitering, trespassing, littering, setting up camp, crapping up within 1 mile of UF, downtown, midtown, SFC downtown … it should be a no bum, no crime, no panhandling zone.

If Grace mkt cannot do its job processing the bums, then close it down and zero tolerance.

    Things are getting worse.

Expand the jail to accommodate these bums & to protect the public.

Put the bums in work release if the need structure.

  • Bangers gonna bang. The gang that couldn’t shoot straight.
Bet the bullet that hit the shot dude came from the gun on the other dude.
Your Honor, the defense ask for no bail and an anklev monitor with dead batteries.

  • Come on republican led Florida legislature. Protect us by passing laws keeping these people in jail instead of trying to control Disney.

  • What a true state of affairs…it’s graduation weekend and this is the last impressions that grads, parents, and the community get to take with them. The leaders of this community need to get on this before this city becomes another Detroit!

  • Again, not the gun’s fault here. The criminals and courts are to blame.

  • Chuck Chesnut said these youth — of this type — were born as crack babies. That’s why they act up like this.
So, it’s not from the pop culture and lax upbringings, nor the lawyers grooming them into violent repeat offenders. Everybody who was a “crack baby” gets a free pass for life. Hoping a frustrated cop beats or kills their innocent boy, so they can call Al Sharpton or Lawyer Crump for a Big Payday 💩👺👹🤡👿🫣

    • “Hoping a frustrated cop beats or kills their innocent boy, so they can call Al Sharpton or Lawyer Crump for a Big Payday”

They are worth more dead than alive.

  • I wonder what Evelyn Foxx of the NAACP and the Black on Black Crime “taskforce” has to say about this constant melenated crime spree?
