Special to Alachua Chronicle

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A Gainesville Police Department Officer was injured late last night in an accident in the 1400 block of NE Waldo Road.

The accident happened a little after 11 p.m. and involved the GPD car and a BMW sedan. The sedan reportedly pulled out of Walmart while fleeing a traffic stop, crossed into the opposite lane, and hit the driver’s side of the patrol car.

The officer was transported to UF Health Shands with non-life-threatening injuries to his head and lower body.

The driver of the BMW was uninjured and was arrested for driving without a valid license, resisting an officer without violence, and fleeing with injury or damage.

Special to Alachua Chronicle
  • The city has several unsettled lawsuits that have been ruled in traffic court to be the fault of GPD.
ONE such incident was contested by GPD in a traffic ti ket charging careless and reckless resulting in “NOT GUILTY” risk management and the replacement for the DAVIES group are offering stiff resistance toward plantiff & legal counsel.
Im not saying this incident is similar but stating it is a hard row to hoe versus GPD & City scum. Wont even answer phone of plaintiffs lawyer. These GPD officers were also committing perjury, blue isis scum.

    • It’s obvious that you mustn’t have read the update. Or if you did you cannot grasp fleeing a traffic stop is

  • 🛑 A GPD officer in another car crash, What Agency is doing the Investigation. There’s a Lot of “Money” going into this police department for vehicles, Wreck

    • Since it seems like you know the circumstances of the crash, please share. You are suggesting it was the officers fault.

    • GPD was t-boned. Read the article, you make yourself sound stupid.

  • 🛑 As I was stating, wreck it Ralph is still employed at GPD, Where are they “ Trained”. Are they “trained”, it was the other drivers fault, Does GPD have Insurance?. Hey! That’s Not to far from 8th avenue. That car looks (Totaled), I’m going to Save this Article 👀.

    • I have to be honest Andre, not only is your comment a bit cryptic ,but your grammar is horrible. It’s just God awful. I don’t understand what you’re trying to convey. Perhaps you can try again?

      • It must be your name’s fault if its hard to understand. 💯

      • Well comments are just what they are but here is why citizens have so much doubt with GPD & ASO. As i stated i hold the proof of the above which is a case related to Andre… Here is the latest im working on in Alachua County area. Link https://youtu.be/5F8iWwYMXg8?si=Qy8xkG1z6dGUcWDT

        • How about you take your bike and camera over to one of those gang infested apartment complexes and start posting video of punks victimizing innocent families?

If you’ve got a problem with the cops you need to be talking to city hall. They’re the people who have made it hard as hell to get good applicants for these jobs. And while you’re at it stop on by the DEC offices and thank them for closing the sheriff’s primary a couple years back saddling the county with Clovis.

        • Plus you are assisting Andre Abrams Sr. He has been deemed incompetent by the courts after he assaulted neighbors with a flame thrower. Nothing he says can be taken seriously. He has violent tendencies.

          • What would YOU do for an EXONERATED BAR? Huh bear, smile What would YOU do when the feds wouldn’t touch that case either? Warrantless arrests are problematic in nature. This GPD blue/blew isis has credibility issues… He STOLD from the tax payers twice years apart and got disciplined by GPD IA never usually happens then a bad shoot too.Twenty NINE court appearances and counting where’s the trial?
Andre already has a civil rights attorneys just waiting for the SAO8 to commence final proceedings. Don’t be so biased Bear, expand on the facts not the feelings. Be mentally, emotionally and physically fit it is the way YOUR tax dollars trained me to be and to fight with all my might to win in all things. Legally and lawfully ALWAYS.Trust Bear if I gave YOU the foggy mountain breakdown of Andre’$ ca$e you would just … Nothing is what it seems Bear. I am going to end my correspondence there are NO conspiracies ONE must find the true truths, Scouts Out! Airborne, All the Way!!!

          • YOU ARE RIGHT NO CONSPIRACY. FACT ANDRE IS A LOON AND YOU ARE TOO. Lol you are worse than Jesse Ventura on conspiracy theories. I’m out. Enjoy your fantasy.

    • Hey Andre, just a thought: perhaps having some facts first before spewing your “infinite wisdom” might be pretty helpful.
The BMW driver was fleeing from a traffic stop & was going north on Waldo before crossing over in to the south lane & T-boning the cop. Cop wasn’t doing anything wrong.
But to you it’s automatically the cop’s fault & all cops must be dirty, right?

    • Was this Junior running from the cops again? Get your boy, would you?

  • Appears to be the classic rear end collision judging by the two photos.
The city vehicle will reside at the fleet garage and be used for parts.
The other one probably back to either the lender or insurance company.
Yes, the city is self insured.

    • More like a T-bone, which is why the officer received head injuries. Note they had to cut the roof off of the cruiser.

      • Exactly, but some people here are not smart enough to use their brain or maybe some of us actually over use our brains. Running the physics of occurrences in our minds.

  • Seems to me there should be more criminal charges.
Prayers for the officer’s well being.

  • Sterling Grindle AKA Blue Steel Andre, and Andre Abrams Sr hate the police and think all police are corrupt and wrong. They are stupid and never seem to have any legitimate evidence that is not edited, or nothing more than lies. But here the issue with this incident. BMW FLEES TRAFFIC STOP, CROSSING INTO OPPOSITE LANE, AND HITS ANOTHER POLICE CAR. Pretty self apparent what happened. Now take out the patrol car hit and replace with you or your relative. This guy could have easily killed someone because of his intentional acts. But the Cop Haters would blame GPD for attempting a traffic stop and making the guy run. All I’m saying is to laugh at these cop haters. They stick there noses and interfere with law enforcement doing there jobs. Sooner or later they will get theirs. I know if I called law enforcement to handle a problem and Sterling Grindle showed up with a camera/phone to record he would walk away wearing it at a distinctively different angle.

  • Bear they only show incidents when the fault/blame is plausible to exonerate themselves Bear I challenge YOU to FOIA/FS 119 the GPD vehicle crash records. Yes BEAR blue isis does this all the time. Just like the ASO here is ASO strip searching roadside. Best practices implemented… Now the SAO8 will have to toss ALL this whole shifts pending cases, previous cases. I personally hope they snatch their BLET certification and hit ASO with accreditation flaws…. Link https://youtu.be/5F8iWwYMXg8?si=RAe1aajX2Ao7Xqq3

    • So you are comparing law enforcement to ISIS, LOL. I haven’t seen any cases getting tossed. The only thing I want to see is andre and you in the jail getting your salads tossed by your criminal only YouTube followers.

  • @Sterling Grindle AKA Blue Steel,
    Hahahaha. 😜🙌 impresive!!!

You only want people to watch you insignificant videos, that who knows how you get them ( hope you have consent of those people to show them on Youtube)…Smart!!! 🤔

Bet you were arrested and thats the hate for the people that protect us. Car Accidents happend every second. And pratrol cars, ambulance and any GI unit are not exempt. Thats the reason we have over 2500 insurrance companies in the USA…you focus only on a few incidents that represent less than 1% of the work hours on those patrol cars.
Because you hate them and do not have the b.lls to admit it.

  • gee everyone in favor of the thug who caused the accident running from a traffic stop another candiate for the mayor’s cabinet

  • How did the roof come off the patrol car? Did the BMW fly up over it?

  • It looks to me as though the officer whose patrol car was hit positioned his car in the intersection of Waldo Road and NE 12th Avenue, facing south, in order to prevent the BMW driver from making a left turn from NE 12th Avenue and into the southbound lanes of Waldo Road; whereupon the BMW changed direction and hit the driver’s side and rear quarter panel of the officer’s patrol vehicle, spinning the patrol vehicle backward across the southbound lanes of Waldo Road and into the fence of Candlelight Estates across from Walmart before veering north into the southbound lanes of Waldo Road; after which the BMW became immobilized across from DCi Dialysis Clinic a few hundred feet north of the impact.

I can’t envision a scenario in which the driver of the BMW could have traveled north any distance in the northbound lane of Waldo Road, turned left across the concrete median to hit the GPD patrol car perpendicularly in the southbound lane, and then straightened back out to continue north in the southbound lane before stopping in front of DCi. I also can’t understand why the driver of the BMW would cross a concrete median to hit a patrol car if the purpose of his or her flight was to evade the police.

If the first scenario is true, this may not have been the best way to stop the fleeing BMW, unless there is more to the story than a simple traffic stop; but it doesn’t rise to the level of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud as some have seemed to suggest, and I can’t see any way for the officer to have committed a moving violation of his own. Unfortunately, the photos in the article don’t show the driver’s side of the patrol vehicle or the front of the BMW to give a better idea of the point(s) of impact.

    • TV-20 reports that the driver, 21-year-old Robert Rodriguez, fled from an attempted traffic stop at NE 3rd Place, which is near E University Avenue in the Duval Heights neighborhood. Combined with the information reported in the article above, it seems Rodriguez fled through Duval Heights before exiting from NE 12th Avenue onto Waldo Road. TV-20 reports that an officer was “waiting at a red light” there, where Rodriguez struck the patrol vehicle. Again, that seems to line up with my thought that an officer was blocking the intersection there–perhaps a couple of officers–because otherwise Rodriguez would have used the turn lane to continue north on Waldo Road. Rodriguez tried to flee on foot after his vehicle became disabled, but officers quickly caught him.

    • I understood the GPD officer to be off duty, and stopped at a traffic light. There is a related story

      • The TV-20 report I quoted said “waiting” rather than “stopped”. No mention of being off duty, which typically is mentioned if that’s the case. I’m interested in the related story, though. Where is it?

      • Wendy, I see now that the Chronicle has published another article that reads the officer was “uninvolved” but not “off duty”. But this just makes me even more curious. The GPD spokesperson is quoted only as saying Rodriguez “pulled out of Walmart and crossed into the opposite lane of travel” before hitting the patrol car. Why would this driver flee straight through the intersection and then turn into opposing traffic, instead of just using the turn lane and avoiding the other officer entirely? I feel like some pieces are missing.

    • The hole in the fence is further north, about a block north of 12th Ave stoplight. That’s another puzzlement.

      • I have to pass by that way this evening, so I was planning to look at exactly that. Perhaps the officer was well back and the last car in a line of traffic, and Rodriguez sped through the turn lane and lost control, traveling across the median and striking the officer’s patrol car before coming to a stop. That’s plausible. Odd that it wasn’t reported as such, but still possible.

  • The majority of the policemen under Captain Young and Lt. Lugo are misfits. The policemen post up in the North East Neighborhood near a temple on NW 8th Avenue as Jim Konish stated meaning Mt. Carmel Church waiting for anyone to enter and exit this neighborhood. Before everyone that is commenting state that Robert was fleeing a traffic stop, why at any point the police activate their lights or sirens to indicate this. I live in the Duval Neighborhood and these policemen will pull anyone over just to harass people. I am beginning to think that either these scumbags are on fentanyl or trying to get more percosets. I was pulled over on the street I live on and the police from this group stated I was blocking traffic when there was no traffic. There were my car first, the asinine Lt. car second and another officer third. How the hell was I blocking traffic. For the record, this young man had his first encounter with these monsters last evening. With all the gun violence and murders all over Gainesville a car riding behind me, following me every turn I make, how did this make know a policemen was pulling him over for a traffic stop without activating his lights or sirens. It is orchestrated genocide on African American males all over the United States and it has been proven that at traffic stops, many have been murdered by corrupt police officers. I know for a fact that these officers target neighborhoods like Duval, Lake Road, Gardenia, Lincoln Estates, Pine ridge etc. just to target these young males. If these officers were under the tenure of Chief Waylon Clifton doing things that were not appropriate for an officer, Clifton would have terminated each one of them. All you commenters that said these officers were right, sit back and watch how this soap opera, Days of our lives play out. Dash cam, videos speak the un-adulterated truth.

    • I’m sure a lot of cops are corrupt, just like a lot of people are corrupt. Cops are first and foremost just people. But you don’t see them hanging out in Haile Plantation to nab rich white ladies with never-ending prescriptions for painkillers. Why not? It might be because the rich white ladies aren’t engaging in gun violence and murder in order to get their drugs, so it’s easier to target the ones committing more than one type of crime and to skim some drugs and cash off of them instead. I know some minorities who are very business-like in their criminality, and they don’t get targeted; while others draw attention to themselves. Make sense?

    • So police presence in neighborhoods that Joe Biden deened Urban Jungles is a prelude to genocide. Seems to me that people wanted the police to focus on these neighborhoods to rid them of crime and violence. Please tell the court commission you want the police out of these areas so they can be used elsewhere. That way these animals who probably dont even live in those areas can kill one another and let God sort it out. Is that what you want? Seek help you are obviously suffering from mental issues.

  • It’s idiots like this driver without a valid license (and many more people) why I try to avoid driving at night in the Gainesville area.
