GPD provides information about 13-year-old apprehended with a gun near Lincoln Middle School

Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville Police Department posted the following information on its social media accounts today:
“Earlier today, there was an incident that we want to bring to your attention.
“In the area of Heartwood Road, a resident reported two suspicious persons behind their neighbor’s house. It would later be discovered the suspects had broken into the home and had stolen a handgun and 2 loaded magazines.
“Due to the vicinity of the incident to Abraham Lincoln Middle School, the school was placed in a secure status.
“Responding Officers made contact with the suspects, who fled into a nearby wooded area. Per department policy, a tactical perimeter was created and additional resources were requested. While maintaining the perimeter, officers heard the distinct sound of a handgun ‘racking’ or, in other terms, possibly being loaded.
“The suspects again attempted to flee but both surrendered to GPD Officers after a brief foot pursuit. After a thorough search of one suspect, a 13-year-old individual, a loaded 9mm handgun was located in his waistband. We are relieved to report that there was no use of force during the apprehension.
“We want to extend our gratitude to Officers Armstrong, Leibrandt, and Johnson for their professional handling of the potentially deadly situation.
“We at GPD wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the community member who promptly reported the incident in our neighborhood. Your quick action helped ensure the safety and security of our community and directly prevented gun violence in our City of Gainesville.
“To all in our community: please prioritize the secure storage of your firearms. Safeguarding your weapons not only protects your family but also prevents potential misuse by unauthorized individuals.
“Let’s work together to ensure the safety of our community. Let’s continue to look out for one another. If you see something unusual or suspicious, don’t hesitate to report it. Together, we can keep our Gainesville safe.”
But they let the white guy stay in his house last weekend even after gassing him. WTF, GPD going to GPD. Now we are bragging about the arrest of a 13 year old…??? SMH
As you call him, “the white guy” was arrested and remains in jail without bail.
Did the 13 year old skip school today to commit a crime? Where are the equality school board employees? Why are they not checking on these kids at risk, providing open arms and no blame?
The crazy part is, is that he will be placed in a school with a bunch of other similar minded kids (AQJ). Creating one of the most dangerous/hardest places in the county to be an educator. Could you imagine having the 8 – 9 hardest students from each grade in the district in one class? The staff there does an amazing job for what they are delt, but there isn’t any incentive to be there. (I was volunteering there recently, and there are over 120 kids there.) It seems like an untenable position to continue to use that school as a place to house students with felonies and weapon charges, but the district has no other alternatives in mind it seems. And with the steady rise of minors committing crimes and being involved with weapons at what point does it become unfair/unsafe for the staff there.
The kids should be expelled and the parents forced to pay for alternate government schooling at a jail or military base. No free public transport, either.
You get fined if you let your dog out and it bites someone, so the idea that your child can commit crimes without parents paying a penalty is absurd.
There can be a path back to free public school after a minimum of 2 years spent at the alternate school with acceptable grades, no discipline problems, and 500 hours of community service.
Thank you, GPD indeed.
Unfortunately the kid will be groomed into career crime by the public attorneys and judges, next 👿💩🤡👹👺
Seriously? What the heck is your beef with attorneys and judges? I can almost predict your comment to every article now. If you really think that the judges and lawyers want this problem to continue to fester, then I think you are sorely mistaken.
Jeff is correct.
Hopefully you can represent them since yiu always talking abou such things
Thanks to neighbors for being diligent and mindful to the happenings in the neighborhood and GPD for their response; the potential for injury or loss of life was prevented.
That being said, even once confronted by LEOs, the suspects ran instead of choosing to surrender and acknowledge their crimes. Unfortunately, this is what’s being encouraged and groomed into many of today’s youth. There’s a problem with that and until that’s addressed and corrected, the degradation of society will continue.
Another model East Gainesville citizen with no morals or respect. They will be state liabilities soon enough so go ahead and beat them with the book. Teach the rest of their tribe that this isn’t tolerable.
Ummmmm crimes happen all over Gainesville……I grew up in East Gainesville also and we don’t condone this behavior. Whatever his tribe is?( His tribe is his family) Don’t blame where I grew up! East Gainesville can be rough, but so is North East, North West, and West Gainesville. Please show some class and most of all some empathy for the lost folks. Let’s focus on helping all youth no matter ethnicity or living circumstances. Blessings to everyone
13 year old with a gun? Oh my, who could it be?
please elaborate. what do you mean?
They butts should have been in school
Why should officers be thanked for handling something professionally? Shouldn’t that be expected?
It’s the right thing to do. If you venture out for dinner do you thank your waiter or waitress or pass because it’s “their job”?
COG Commission members push for gun violence initiatives, and inclusion, and diversity, and so on, but what good does it do?
These articles contain arrest of black kids with guns, that are getting younger and younger.
Clearly, GPD is “Inclusive” and “diversified”, on arresting people for these crimes.
