  • This story and circumstances seemed to be kept under wraps from the media and public. I am sure more will come to light as the investigation continues.

  • And this crap is and will continue to spread across G’ville as once great apartments convert to section 8, etc. It’s already happening.

  • How much money has been put in to gun prevention initiatives? Seems like we’re wasting alot of money talking about this issue, and the stats keep going up up up.

We need real leadership in this city. The status quo can’t continue, or the citizens have already surrendered to the criminals.

    • What would you like to see in a “gun prevention initiative? “ More gun laws? If criminals are already breaking the law, do you believe another law would work? It is already harder to buy a gun in Alachua County than elsewhere. And, in a lot of these shootings, it is a convicted felon with an illegal firearm.

  • Pk, do you mean the millions in salaries which are being paid to privileged “leadership “ in Gainesville?
The “leadership “ who are so self serving that you cannot dare approach them? The citizens must write a letter to their support teams who then determine if it will be of interest to the “leadership “. You know who they are. Look for the high end luxury cars and how they act, with an upper level of smugness towards the citizens.
This goes for City management and County management.

  • If an apt. complex has a majority of unemployed (but not genuinely disabled) tenants, it should be torn down. It’d be too costly to repair the neglect and damage.
Replace it with deed restricted, owner occupied single-occupancy efficiency unit condos, supervised by HOA rules, gated and guarded by crimewatch system and barbed wire fencing, walls.
Not more subsidized rentals. Start tearing down the section 8s if most are unemployed or crime breeder farms.
    🤡👹🍦🍦🍦🍦D

  • I agree that if someone is unemployed and still having children ,yet already have a house full of children should be made to work and not receive all the free benefits that working people should be receiving. There are many families with hard working single parents and married couples that fall into hardships that should be receiving benefits but DON’T. This city needs better programs for young kids to go and be productive rather than leaving them to do nothing. Too much time leaves room to do other things. And yes it all starts at home. Teach your kids morals, how to be productive LEGALLY and responsibily. Too many kids having kids and NO STRUCTURE!!!!! Guns DON’T Kill, people Do!!! Many need conflict guidance!!!

  • I’m going to say this here because I feel it is a safe and open forum. If I had to guess, I would estimate that probably 75% or more of the regular readers here are of a demographic that is different than the demographic of those involved in this death. And, we are upset that it isn’t being reported in mainstream news, and we are upset that those in power keep throwing money at useless solutions while more and more young black men are being murdered. Yet, I think the belief of the demographic involved in the murder/death is that WE are the ones that are uncaring or uninterested in their plight and problems. I don’t know how we can branch the cultural divide to show that we are concerned and would like to help work towards a solution. It breaks my heart.

    • Dangle, I have seen the problems having worked in the CJ system for 17 years. No family structure. No father in life. Men come and go I Hate the Phrase “Baby Daddy”. This term was not allowed in my office. Women with low self-esteem. Desperate to have any man in their life, no matter how many felony convictions he may have. I used to tell them if a grown man shows up on a bicycle, no money and no job. Tell to keep peddling you deserve better. But government can’t fix these problems. I really believe we need to bring back the draft. I firmly believe that most young men 17-22 yoa are trying to find themselves. The military provides you with discipline. Anyway, Mid-night basketball will not work. I was never a Boy Scout but see how this could provide guidance at an early age. Society wishes to look the other way instead of actually confronting the problems that may seem stereotyping people but if it saves lives then stereotype.

      • Back in the 80’s when I served we were all one color: green. Its that sort of thinking that is lost in today’s society where everyone has to be different and be a victim.

      • Thanks so much for your input and for the work you do, Think About It. We could all benefit from the wisdom that you and Fred have gained through your life experiences. My heart bleeds for the mamas losing their babies to these senseless acts of violence. Thug life is not the life, fellas. Find a better path.

    • Caleb was white/native American. I do agree with what you said though and glad to see somebody with a brain in the comments.

  • I lived here about a month before this happened. I knew of the kid who got shot he was always walking around the neighborhood but tbh I feel like it was someone who lives there who did the crime. The neighborhood was very sketch and management obviously didn’t gaf on who stays there. you even had squatters so who knows
