Updated: Juvenile arrested for hoax call about shooting at A. Quinn Jones today

Updated at 7:15 p.m. with information about the arrest.

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A juvenile has been arrested for making a false 911 call after Gainesville Police Department officers determined that a call about a shooting at A. Quinn Jones was likely a hoax.

Although a report of a shooting at A. Quinn Jones was received this afternoon, a Gainesville Police Department spokesman told Alachua Chronicle that officers believe the call may have been a hoax.

Because today was a half day, the spokesman said, there were no students on campus when the call came in; the school has been cleared, and no victims have been located.

  • Was it a student at A. Quinn?
If so, they must not be learning the difference between right and wrong.
Maybe the kid just thought it was only 50% wrong so it would be at least 80% okay.

  • The juvenile who made this hoax call is most likely already out with only a wrist slap, compliments of alachua county’s pillow-soft juvenile justice system

    • Alachua county doesn’t have a juvenile justice system. It’s run by the Department of Juvenile Justice at the state level. It’s the one item DeSantis has not yet fixed.
