Press release from Gainesville Police Department

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Tuesday, August 29, at approximately 6:25 a.m., Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers were dispatched to the area of 2900 NE 10th Drive, in reference to a person shot. Upon their arrival, officers were contacted by a female victim who had an apparent bullet graze to the left side of her face. Officers and detectives were able to gather that this was an incident of dating violence and that the female victim and a male friend were targeted by the female’s boyfriend, later identified as Jalen Bernard Kelsey Patterson (BM DOB: 09/07/1994).

Detectives learned that while the female victim and male friend were sitting in a vehicle, Patterson approached, opened the driver’s door, and attempted to rob the male. The female exited the vehicle and got in between the two. During a brief struggle, a firearm was fired that was in Patterson’s possession. The female was grazed in the face by the gunshot. Patterson pointed the firearm at the male victim and tried to shoot again; however, the firearm did not function. Patterson fled the scene on foot, but not before being seen and identified by witnesses.

Patterson is currently wanted for Attempted Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery, Attempted Homicide, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. GPD is actively looking for Patterson and urges him to turn himself in to detectives. Any member of the community with information regarding this incident or who knows of Patterson’s whereabouts is asked to please call 352-955-1818. You can also remain anonymous and contact Crimestoppers at 352-372-7867 or submit a tip online at www.stopcrime.tv.

  • Another felon with a firearm?
He should have stayed in school or had better parents or at least a better role model.

In the meantime, Gainesville leadership may want to reevaluate their efforts. What they’re doing obviously isn’t working.

  • He shouldn’t be to hard to find. You can tell he’s not too bright. (Dummy)

  • Senseless these comments however needs to be evaluated a little more better!!!!! Racism is at a high point. I notice on certain topics one sided always comment then when it’s not a certain person no comments at all smh!!!!

    • Senseless? Selfish, callous, and uncaring are but other words that could be used to describe the guy in the photo. Someone’s life didn’t matter to him did it? This idiot attacked someone else because she didn’t want to be with him or he was jealous. Maybe she didn’t want to be with a felon. What’s apparent is your deflection and intentional unwillingness to recognize the crime this person allegedly committed.
Thanks for calling out the racism in society though, usually the racist is the one who cries out first and the loudest.

    • Sometimes it is hard. The huge number of convicted felons with guns. Almost all are from one community. Day after day, the jail reports that same community accounts for 1/2 to 3/4 of all arrests, even though it is less than 20% of the population. The PC violators of the First Amendment won’t even allow the use of honest, real, accurate words to describe an event.

  • Another felon with a gun, demonstrating he can not function in society. Lift jail foundation and insert under.

  • Out this thug away for many years before he does kill someone. We’ll be paying for his sorry ass for many years to come. Useless.
