GPD to host gun buy-back on June 8
June 5, 2024
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Police Department will be hosting a gun buy-back event this Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Antioch Holiness Church (2516 NE 8th Ave.).
This initiative aims to reduce the number of unwanted firearms in our community, making our neighborhoods safer for everyone. Participants can turn in firearms anonymously, no questions asked, and receive a gift card in return.
GPD asks the public to following these directions for safety:
- Follow the directions below, as well the directions provided by the department members at the event. Communication is key!
- Prior to arrival, please place your unloaded firearm in the trunk of your car, preferably in a box or some type of case or container;
- Upon arrival, turn on the safety flashers on your vehicle.
- Donors will be directed to an identified staging area where GPD personnel will advise the donors and any other occupants of the vehicle not to handle any firearms and wait for further instructions from uniformed personnel.
- Please DO NOT reach for or handle any firearm(s).
I love gift cards, time to purge the safe and get rid of unfixables.
👏🏼Gotta applaud their efforts, no matter how futile and ineffective they are.
Cutting the hands off people who use firearms to commit crimes would be more effective though. (After they’ve been found guilty)
Demonrats trying to disarm law abiding citizens just like in commie countries.
Yea Right, buy back guns, so thugs can go thru neighborhoods and steal more out of vehicles!🙄
Once again city hall puts on a dog & pony show disguised as a gun-buy-back.
You cannot buy back what was never yours to begin with.
Voters of G’ville, this is what happens when you have a commission that has no idea what they’re doing.
This is what happens when the local state attorney refuses to prosecute offenders choosing to cut them loose to kill again!
Remember folks, should you attend this debacle to turn a quick buck beware…
The cops will check you and your car 20 ways from Halloween.
And if, if they have any reason to search inside your car and you say no, we’ll then you are going to the ground with violent force.
Better idea: the SAO just prosecute all the criminals who do crimes with guns with minimum 5,10,20 , life years of prison with 20 years monthly probation supervision after they get out of prison and that should work!
I’m curious, if a gun was stolen, and it’s sold to the PoPo, will the lawful owner of the firearm get it back? If not, why?
I’m fairly confident the owner would also want to file charges against the potential thief.
the only people that show up to these things are widows getting rid of their husbands guns
These events can backfire. Sometimes the bad guys hang around and make better offers.
Looks like the organizers wised up to the practice of cranking out a bunch of cheap homemade slam-fire firearms in order to clean out the buyback budget.
Still a chance to get good deals on some widow’s vintage firearms, just make yourself a sign “WE BUY GUNS – WILL BEAT ANY BUYBACK PRICE”.
