Release from Gainesville Police Department
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Police Department is proud to welcome Assistant Chief Efrain Torres to our leadership team and administer his Oath of Office, Friday, June 5th, at 2 p.m., in the Hall of Heroes.
Assistant Chief Torres brings a wealth of law enforcement, security, and military experience to GPD. Prior to joining our agency, he retired from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office after a distinguished career that culminated in his role as Assistant Chief of Police for the Pompano Beach District.
Throughout his career with BSO, Assistant Chief Torres served in a variety of assignments, including Detective, Civil Unit Deputy, Patrol Sergeant, Investigations Sergeant, Training Division Lieutenant, Executive Officer, and Captain. His extensive experience and proven leadership have prepared him well for this new role serving the Gainesville community.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Assistant Chief Torres served as the Major League Soccer Executive Security Officer, providing security leadership for professional sporting events and the organization.
Assistant Chief Torres also proudly served our nation for 21 years in the United States Marine Corps, where he held the position of Platoon Commander. Semper Fi!
We are excited to have Assistant Chief Torres join the Gainesville Police Department and look forward to the knowledge, leadership, and dedication he brings to our organization and community.
Please join us in welcoming Assistant Chief Efrain Torres as he begins this new chapter as the Assistant Chief of Police for the Gainesville Police Department.

Welcome Aboard!
Reads like the found one heck of a good man for the job.
At least GPD doesn’t have a Marine Patrol Boat for him to use on taxpayer expenses like in Broward.
Welcome, Welcome. There goes the neighborhood! Lol
I hope he is not another Terry Pierce…. just sayin’
Let’s see if Efrain can do something about the panhandlers at 39th & Waldo, and if he can stop 🛑 the unhoused crime emergency we are having here…
Currently, women are not safe at water 💦 fountains, bus 🚎 stops, city 🌃 parks, their homes 🏠, and donuts 🍩 shops…
You would think we would be safe at donuts 🍩 shops❗️
21 years in The CORPS and you made LT?
