GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Early this morning, Gainesville Fire Rescue crews responded to a fire at Centerpoint Apartments (1220 NW 12th St). Upon arrival, units found smoke showing from a two-story apartment building.

Crews quickly began investigating to find the source. Interior crews searched each apartment and firefighters laddered the roof. With assistance from Gainesville Police Department’s drone team, they were able to locate a hidden fire in the attic through key thermal signatures. The crew quickly extinguished the attic fire and pulled the ceiling to prevent further extension.

The fire caused smoke damage to the second floor apartment but with the quick and coordinated efforts by all crews involved, it was extinguished prior to spreading past the apartment of origin. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries

Reminder: Make sure your smoke alarms are working on every level of your home. Early detection saves lives in the event of a fire.
