Havana man arrested with $400k of cocaine on I-75 sentenced to 3 years in prison and 5 years of probation
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Akil Jabari Walden, 36, of Havana, FL, was sentenced yesterday to three years in state prison, followed by five years of probation, after entering a plea of nolo contendere to possession of trafficking quantities of cocaine, 9 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Walden was arrested on July 7, 2022, after he was pulled over on I-75 in Alachua County for illegal window tint and an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy found almost nine pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $399,100. Walden had two previous felony convictions.
The plea deal notes that the maximum sentence for the charges is 32 years, and the trafficking charge has a mandatory minimum sentence of three years.
Judge William Davis accepted the deal and sentenced Walden to three years in prison on the cocaine trafficking charge, followed by five years of probation; on the two lesser charges, he sentenced Walden to two days in prison with credit for two days served. Judge Davis added a note that “The Court recommends a low-risk facility.”
He most definitely snitched on everyone.
No question about it!
Maybe someone in the media could find out why he seems worthy of such a light sentence of 2 days for a 32 year crime.
If I read it correctly, he received 2 days, (and received credit for those), for the lesser of the crimes but was sentenced to 3 years on the trafficking charge.
Nine POUNDS of cocaine is worthy of more than three years. Period.
Agreed. I just provided an answer ro the original inquiry.
Dead man walking
He definitely snitched. 3 years in a low risk prison. He got off easy with having almost a half million dollars of someones coke.
For now…
July, 2022- an entire year ago. Pretty long time for a slam-dunk drug case to drag through the courts. But also plenty of time for narcotics detectives to validate any information he gave them.
