HAWTHORNE, Fla. – Jason Michael Hicks, 46, was arrested yesterday and charged with five counts of sexual battery on a victim under 12 (all capital felonies), one count of lewd and lascivious exhibition with a victim under 12, and one count of tampering with a witness.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded yesterday to a residence in Hawthorne following a call about a suicidal subject, later identified as Hicks. While deputies were trying to gather information, Hicks reportedly told them to ask a family member, held out his hands, and told them to take him to jail.
Deputies then learned that a child had allegedly been raped by Hicks when she was seven years old. At the time, her caregiver was in the hospital and Hicks was caring for the child. Hicks allegedly had the child sleep in his bed during that time period and sexually battered the child; the victim reportedly also described several other times when Hicks sexually battered her. The victim reportedly said Hicks told her not to tell anyone or he would “beat her butt.”
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
