Hawthorne man killed in 3-vehicle crash

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – A 62-year-old Hawthorne man was killed this morning in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. Hwy 301.
At about 5:45 a.m., three vehicles were involved in the crash near SE 165th Avenue; no details from the investigation are available at this time, other than information about the vehicles and drivers.
A 26-year-old Melrose man driving a pickup truck suffered minor injuries. A 38-year-old man from Charlotte, NC, driving an SUV suffered no injuries, and his 74-year-old male passenger, also from Charlotte, was also uninjured. The 62-year-old Hawthorne man was driving a pickup truck and was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to the FHP release, the two pickup truck drivers were not wearing seatbelts, and the occupants of the SUV were wearing seatbelts.
This accident is still under investigation, but all lanes of U.S. Hwy 301 are open.
