Hawthorne man killed in single-vehicle crash in Yankeetown

YANKEETOWN, Fla. – A 51-year-old Hawthorne man was killed last night after his car sank in the Gulf of Mexico in Yankeetown.
Florida Highway Patrol reported that the man was driving a 2002 Ford Mustang at a high rate of speed on CR 40 at about 9:08 p.m. last night and failed to stop at the boat ramp at the end of the road for unknown reasons; the car traveled into the Gulf of Mexico and sank. The driver was transported to Seven Rivers Hospital in Citrus County, where he was pronounced deceased.
