Hawthorne woman arrested for intentionally ramming security gate at Eastside High School with her car

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kelly Jenette Brooker, 44, of Hawthorne, had been charged with felony property damage after allegedly intentionally damaging the security gate at Eastside High School with her car.

At about 9:36 a.m. on October 23, the high school’s School Resource Deputy responded to a report that someone had run through the school’s front security gate on the north side of the campus. The deputy reported that the gate is typically locked with a chain after school starts at 8:30 a.m. The deputy reportedly found a car stopped in front of the gate, on school property.

The driver reportedly identified herself as Brooker and said she had pushed the gate open with her car because she was trying to get to Hawthorne City Hall. She reportedly said that she knew the gate was closed and locked.

The damage was estimated at $3,000.

Post Miranda, Brooker reportedly admitted that she had intentionally forced the gate open with her car to gain access to the school’s campus.

Brooker has been charged with felony property damage and driving without a valid license. She has four misdemeanor convictions (all traffic), including a DUI conviction that resulted in the revocation of her license. Judge Jonathan Ramsey ordered her released on her own recognizance.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • If she didn’t know she was at the school and not city hall, I am wondering if there was a little DUI this time as well.
