A 49-year-old Hawthorne woman was killed Monday evening when a truck ran off the road while she was standing by a mailbox on the shoulder of US Hwy 301.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol release, the woman was standing by a mailbox on the grass shoulder of US Hwy 301 near NE 78th Place at about 5:55 p.m. on January 3 when a tractor/trailer traveling northbound traveled off the road onto the right shoulder. The woman was hit by the right front of the truck and was transported to UF Health Shands, where she was pronounced deceased. The tractor/trailer was driven by a 41-year-old Lehigh Acres man.
So sad… We have to do better.
Florida is #1 in the US for cyclists and pedestrians killed on our roads 😞
I agree, As a cyclist, drivers need to pay more attention, but not just for us, pedestrians, and motorcyclist as well.
Nothing on your phone is that damn important
