HCA Florida Healthcare breaks ground on new HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital
Press release from HCA Florida Healthcare
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – HCA Florida Healthcare, the state’s leading network of hospitals and healthcare facilities, announced construction is now underway on the new $231 million HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital, the latest hospital planned as part of HCA Florida Healthcare’s expansion across the state. Community and hospital leaders kicked off the project Thursday with a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the recently opened HCA Florida Gainesville Emergency Room, which will be expanded into the new full-service hospital over the next 18 months.
“We are proud to have served thousands of patients across the greater Gainesville area over the past 50 years,” said Brian Cook, president, HCA Healthcare North Florida Division. “Today, we take another positive step forward in our commitment to expanding access to high-quality care in the rapidly growing North Central Florida region. The addition of HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital will help to ensure we continue to meet the increasing need for acute care services in the communities we serve and provide convenient continuity of care in one location for our patients and their families.”
The new hospital and medical office building, targeted to open in early 2026 at 4094 SW 41st Boulevard, will build upon the existing HCA Florida Gainesville Emergency Room. The hospital will include a surgical services department, a catheterization lab, 60 medical/surgical beds, a 30-bed in-patient rehabilitation unit, and a full complement of imaging services available for the community. The hospital is anticipated to house more than 200 colleagues, including physicians, other healthcare professionals, and support personnel.
“The new HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital is a huge win for our community, both in terms of expanded access to state-of-the art medical treatment and a positive economic impact on our growing area,” said Eric Godet, Sr., president and CEO of the Greater Gainesville Chamber and board member of HCA Florida North Florida Hospital. “We’re excited by the new jobs this major project will bring and look forward to additional business growth in the area as a result.”
The groundbreaking for the new hospital and ribbon cutting for the existing HCA Florida Gainesville Emergency Room included a community celebration adjacent to the new emergency facility, which is open 24/7, 365 days a year for adults and children.
HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital is a part of HCA Florida Healthcare, the leading provider of healthcare in the state of Florida. With more than 84,000 colleagues, HCA Florida Healthcare’s comprehensive network is a family of more than 650 affiliated sites of care, including hospitals, physician practices, freestanding emergency rooms, and urgent care centers.
Notice the location…
Guess people running multi-billion dollar businesses know something about profit potential and minimizing possible threats to their employees. M & Ms would be proud, City Commissioners – probably not so much.
Kudos to HCA Florida for bringing a needed healthcare facility to Alachua and surrounding counties.
Just clean the equipment.
Seems like they need to put that money into their old HCA location and clean that place up and get the surgery rooms working full speed again. I wonder if they’re going to cut corners with the new place too. HCA yuk.
HCA, where you are always welcome as long as you have good insurance. If you don’t, they stabilize you and ship you to Shands. HCA = for profit and the “fine” company that brought you Rick Scott.
Most companies are for for profit; just like people. Anyone who claims to not want the highest wages for their skills is lying.
