Headquarters Library closed indefinitely due to power outage

Press release from Alachua County Library District

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Alachua County Library District Headquarters Library in downtown Gainesville will be temporarily closed due to a power outage. A bad electrical breaker at the location is the cause of the power outage. We cannot safely open to the public without power at the location. The Library District is actively working to restore full library services to the Headquarters Library. Due to the delivery timeline of new parts and the need to schedule the installation of the new breaker, we plan to reopen the Headquarters Library as soon as the issue is resolved.

We will provide curbside pick-up of Headquarters Library materials currently on hold, in the parking lot of the Headquarters Library, seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until all holds are clear. The Headquarters Library is located at 401 E. University Ave. Gainesville, FL 32601.

Patrons using curbside pick-up should call (352) 334-3950 when in the designated parking location. We ask patrons to remain in their vehicles and a staff member will bring the materials to you. Please have your ID or library card available for verification. A temporary book drop location has been set up in the parking lot for material returns.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding during this closure. Please look for updates on the Library District website at www.aclib.us or on our social media pages @alachualibrary.

  • “A bad electrical breaker at the location is the cause of the power outage.” Library closed indefinitely. Really? For one electrical breaker. Must be a government job….involving overtime & cost overruns too? Pathetic.

  • I suspect that there will be some major disinfection going on while they’re trying to find that rare replacement breaker.

  • Not sure is it is coincidental or not but there is a school in Newberry partially without heat and the estimated repair date is by the end of January. I am not a contractor but I find it hard to believe both of these items can’t be fixed in a reasonable amount of time. What is the problem with SBAC and Alachua County?

    • Really Kevin!! You have to ask ‘what is wrong’? I suppose the usual. The inability to research and find electricians who are capable and are not friends or relatives of the SBAC or Alachua County. The must have to juggle the money to cover the everyday problems to hide the money lost on fun boondoggles and pet projects. What a sham.
