High Springs man arrested for deliberately trying to hit victims’ vehicle

Staff report

HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – Edward Morales, 36, of High Springs, was arrested yesterday and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly intentionally swerving toward a car with three occupants.

A High Springs Police Department officer responded to a call about a reckless vehicle in the 21800 block of Railroad Avenue in High Springs at about 5:12 p.m. yesterday; his investigation found that Morales intentionally drove his pickup truck toward the victims’ vehicle. The driver of the victims’ vehicle, a 17-year-old girl, reportedly had to swerve off the road to avoid a head-on collision. Her grandmother and two-year-old sister were passengers in the car and were also victims of the incident.

The victims knew Morales and were able to identify him, plus an independent witness was driving behind Morales’ truck and saw the incident.

Morales has lived in the area for 20 years and has only one conviction, for driving without a valid license in 2004. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $30,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
