High Springs Police Chief placed on administrative leave after complaints
BY JENNIFER CABRERA
HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – High Springs Police Chief Antoine Sheppard has been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is conducted into complaints against him, according to a June 23 letter from City Manager Jeremy Marshall.
The letter does not provide any information about the complaints, and the City of High Springs told Alachua Chronicle that the allegations will not be made public until the investigation is complete.
Sheppard was required to return all City property and is prohibited from contacting any City employee during the investigation without permission.
Sheppard will remain on leave until he receives written notification from the City Manager.

So much for everything being idyllic and perfect out there in Springs County…
There’s nothing more despicable than someone who turns every issue into a left-right political fight. People like you are weak minded partisan slaves.
Don’t see you saying that about when it’s done on the other side (for example any bail comment, etc). Not saying you’re wrong… just saying either call out all for the action or suck it up when it’s done on you.
You haven’t read my comments over the past several years. I absolutely call out republicans and other hypocrites. I’m an equal opportunity sniper.
This man has had a stellar career of 25 years to the community of High Springs. The “complaint” is BS and it’s obviously a method to silence someone who non-confrontationally disagreed with a proposed budget cut to fire and police.
After years of instability it was great to have a locally sourced Police Chief in High Springs. I know of no officer or member of the public who has a complaint with the Chief.
Shame on the manager here for tarnishing his name.
shame on you. I have a long list of years of the Chief being racist in my opinion, not investigating calls I have made over the years. I’ll be happy to share it ALL just have them to ask me. It includes him ignoring drug sells, children in danger of his own cousin and he refused to investigate to the point of endangering a child and others. In my opinion you don’t know the REAL Chief or his bad officers. Just the outward appearance. I’d be happy to inform anyone that wants to know. Especially the investigators. I have years of complaints. Anyone else want to speak up now is a good time to be heard.
I truly believe this is a witch hunt. He stood up for his Dept when they was trying to cut it and now it’s payback and I don’t give a damn what party he represents its wrong.
“Sheppard was required to return all City property and is prohibited from contacting any City employee during the investigation without permission.”
Doesn’t sound good… sounds like he’s getting fired…
The current financial problems in High Springs are NOT due to the past administration. The prior City Manager tried to fire the finance director in 2023 but was prevented from doing so by ONE interfering Commissioner. The police chief is one of the very few things that is RIGHT in regard to current City leadership. What HS does have is an inexperienced manager who makes bad personnel decisions. IMO the Commission needs to investigate him. And – that ONE Commissioner should resign. The truth is about to come out……
I would like to see a different person in that position. He is the worst of the worst in my opinion. His cousin was selling drugs where I could see it, I called to turn him in. They didn’t do a thing except say to him, looks like you are not wanted here so leave. That’s all that was done, no search, nothing just leave. They did not do a thing. Even though I saw him. Does His family get arrested in High Springs, why not? His cousin is still walking the streets, the park, the laundry mat, etc. and he’s still selling drugs to adults and your kids. But Chief protects him, in my opinion from my experiance. Once when I called his cousin in for messing with my 6yo autistic grandson at the park behind Chiefs house. Cousin went to Chiefs house and I got ignored. One more they never have reports on the calls I make because every time I’ve needed the report the answer is always we did not make one because we don’t have to. Very unfair practices happening in High Springs and he likes it that way in my opinion, so why no reports why is that legal? In my opinion we need Police Dept overhaul and keep the good officers and get the department cleaned up and stop all the good ole boys attitude. that is my opinion. GFS
I own land in high springs for more than 30 years…the people in city hall were real assholes… I have stories …that’s all I’m going to say about that… was very unprofessional back then…from what I’m hearing about the chief, there’s still problems…
