High Springs woman arrested for attacking woman with broken glass bottle

Staff report

HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – Willie Mae Hodge, 69, of High Springs, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking another woman with a broken glass bottle.

At about 1:03 p.m. yesterday, a High Springs Police Department Officer responded to a call about an aggravated assault and found Hodge, who matched the description of the suspect, in the area of NW 180th Avenue and Douglas Street.

Because Hodge was near a daycare and was potentially armed, the officer detained her and then spoke to the victim, who reportedly said Hodge had cornered her on a bench and tried to stab her with a broken glass bottle. She said Hodge thought she was sleeping on her bed.

Two witnesses reportedly corroborated the victim’s story. One witness said he helped get Hodge away from the victim by telling her she needed to leave.

Post Miranda, Hodge reportedly declined to speak with the officer.

Hodge has two felony convictions (one violent) and 10 misdemeanor convictions (three violent). She has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2011. She has been arrested twice since 2016 on violent charges, and one sworn complaint was filed against her in 2023 for battery, but all the charges were dropped. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $40,000 and ordered a mental health evaluation.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • I picture her chewing on her cull while exercising her 5th amendment rights. 😂

  • Another one who’d normally be let loose with ankle monitor, but not in hot summers. Lawyers would lose fees if she escaped to Atlanta where she belongs, at as DEI dental clinic X-ray tech . 👺💩🤡👹👿DDS

    • Maybe she’s an elderly woman with serve mental health issues and instead of palcing in Prison/Jail maybe a Mental health facility would be beneficial, But I get it peoplevof today LACK common sense and empathy. REALJK i’m sure you’re a saint and surely can cast the first stone. #wearenitworthy of your greatnness- JKREALly I am.

      • I’ve always advocated for REAL help for the needy. But there’s too much money and power in prolonging chaos and misery in Dem areas, sorry. 🙃

      • No matter what her problem, mentally ill or not, the public should be protected from her. And once again, I note she’s habitual offender, 2 felony and 10 misdemeanor convictions. At what point in your opinion does the publics right to safety supercede a criminal’s right to prey on the public?
She can get mental health care in prison.

  • She has a history of violent arrests going back to the early 80s. There are also mental issues. She need to be locked up for a while before she kills someone.

    • Or maybe instead of locking her up she should get the proper mental health and substance abuse treatment. Jail and prison aren’t always the best solution food for thought… Easy solution lock em up…. Clearly it hasn’t worked

      • She’s a repeat offender because lawyers and judges are crooked, in Dem areas. 💩👺👹🤡👿

  • Wow! This women uses a broken bottle to cut someone and the previous article has a man who pours gasoline on a women and tries to set her on fire. Looks like that gun buy back program is already working?
