High Springs woman arrested for stealing over $20,000 in lottery tickets from employer

Staff report

HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – Penny Marie Cason, 51, has been charged with grand theft over $20,000 after allegedly stealing over $20,000 in lottery tickets from her employer.

A High Springs Police Department officer responded to High Springs Pure (23179 W. U.S. Hwy 27), where the general manager said he was working with the Florida Lottery to determine how much was actually taken, but in looking “at the last few incidents,” the loss was already over $20,000. The general manager said the incidents covered a two-month span, and he said Cason had admitted to the thefts.

Post Miranda, Cason reportedly admitted to stealing books of lottery tickets, but she wasn’t sure how many.

Cason has been charged with grand theft over $20,000. She has no criminal history, and Judge Meshon Rawls ordered her released on her own recognizance.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Wonder how much she and her friends already won from the stolen tickets

  • It seems to me that scratch-off tickets are serialized and worthless if stolen.
